This year's Dungannon Fair will
feature events from both the fair and the
family fun •days previously held the
weekend before the annual fair. The most
popular events from each have :been .eom-
biried to create a family fun fair, says
organizer Carole Nivens.
"We used to have the family fun days
a week before the fair... The main reason
(we amalgamated) was so things weren't
spread out so much," Nivens said.
Fair attendance in recent years fell
sharply, she added, forcing organizers to
think ef different ways to schedule events
and improve attendance again.
"In an attempt to reduce financial
losses and increase the interest and at-
tendance, it was decided to amalgamate
the fair and the family fun day."

Financial losses from last year's
Dungannon Fair totaled over $6000,
Nivens said.
In unifying the fair and the family fun
days, organizers tried to keep the events
which were well -attended in previous
years, and "put aside those events that
were not practical to continue," she
added.
Costly events such as the heavy horse
and light horse competitions have been
cancelled this year, since the fair paid
out so much prize money last year. Very
few people attended the event to compen-
sate, Nivens said.
The homemaking section has also been
removed from this year's fair due to low
participation previously,
The parade, on the other hand, has
been eidargerl substantially, Nivens add-
ed. The antique cars, which will be part
of the parade in addition to appearing in
the antique gar show, make the parade
even longer and add variety.
New events this year 'include an adult
dance Friday night and a teen dance
Saturday night, a Euchre tournanemt
Saturday. Also new this year is a ball
tournament between the CKNX Tryhards
and the Dungannon Agricultural Society,
to be held Friday night at 7 p.m.
Nivens hopes attendance will improve
this year following the amalgamation,
and more assertive advertising.
"We're hoping that there will be a bet-
ter turnout all 'around," she said.
On July 15, 1989 the 20th annual Burt
picnic was held at the Hanover
Memorial Park with sixty-one in
attendance.
The western provinces were
represented very well with Bernice and
All Lell and family from North Van-
couver, British Columbia, Major David
Lake, Alberta, and Greta and Gerry
Ballagh from Saskatehewan.
George and Sue Burt conducted the
sports. The games included the Ping
Pong Team, the Sac Bace, Pass the
Present, The Toilet Paper Mummy
game, the Bubble Gum Contest and the
Candy Toss. The Jelly Bean contest was
won by Jeff Spricenicks.
