Page 14Laekow Sentinel, Wednesday, June 21, 1989 Students start 'count down Jennifer Porter and Tammy Neable Grade 1 What a busy week! Monday was Play Day for the whole school, and we en- joyed working in teams for obstacle rraces, kick the shoe, and other races. On Tuesday, we learned many things at the Children's Museum in London. Con- gratulations to Hailey, Marc, and Jor- don for being winners in the .Bike Safety Rodeo. We hope all the good work we are doing this week for the Fall Fair will win some prizes. We said "Thank You" to our Volunteer Parents with a delicious lunch on Friday. Grade 2 The bike rodeo brought great excite- ment to our class. Joe Ernest received first, Jamie Aubie second and Michelle Gibbons second. Joe Ernest received first overall in the Junior Division. Con- gratulations Joe. We hope everyone will put their knowledge of bike safety into practice this summer. Grade 2/3 We have had a very busy week. 'Everyone enjoyed Play Day on Monday and Bike Rodeo on Tuesday. We were very proud .of Alicia de Boer who won a beautiful On Friday, Pam Agnew visited our classroom to tell us about the food Australian people eat. We tasted "Spot- ted Dog" and "Damper" and thought that=;tbey were-dekcioua.-Thar=you4Ms:.:-._. Agnew. Grade 3/4 The grades 3/4 class . has been study- ing about the world of sharks. They even drew to scale, all of the different types of sharks. Several interesting facts have been learned eg. sharks have big teeth, teeth grow back if they fall out 'and that even the small sharks can • bite your head Off. They are proud that several students, Rob Symes, Matthew • de 'Boer, George Carter, and :Martyti Van Meeteren, represented our schoot .at the Regional Mack .and *;Meld meet. Julie ,Golian ;Nand' PJTra,a)•.assinore. were. place winners at the Bicycle Rodeo this week. Congratulations. Grade 4 This week we .had our bike rodeo.. Lucas Thacker --received number one for the grade 4 classroom. On Monday we are going on our field trip around Bruce GPS INSIDER County with the grade 5's and 6's. Play Day was a big success. Everyone had fun. The kids in the grade 4 classroom who went to the Kincardine track and field meet did a great job. Way to go guys! Grade 3 Grade 5 is winding down for another year. We have had a successful year in portable 2. We talked about famous peo- ple and decided that Ben Johnson is likely the most famous person right now. However, probably Wayne Gretzky is generally the most famous. Grade 6 This week the grade 6 will be going on a field trip around Bruce County with the grade 4's and 5's. Last Mon- day, some grade 6 students went to the regional track meet in Kincardine. Special mention goes to Tina Jewson for winning second place for the junior girls division. At the bike rodeo, Brent Sum- mers placed second and Mike de Boer placed first in his division. Way to go guys! Grade 7 Grade 7 have been having quite a few tests- °lately --since-. t's..:the -- end --of- -the year. year in only eight days. We just had a history test yesterday. In art we are finishing up fall fair work which has to be handed in. by .the 23rd of June to be judged during the summer. Grade The grade 8 class enjoyed a super -trip to. Ottawa this year. Here we saw many of the famous sites we often have seen an television. We were fortunate to .see all of the .major :politicians during Ques- tion `Period and we ,personally met our member 4,;f .Parliament, Murray Cardiff. The class also had aspecial opportunity to see a number of international boxing matches. Even the weather cooperated; rain only appeared as we approached home. He commented some of the children were missing very important safety items from their bikes, such as a bell or horn, a light and reflective gear.
