• This is a wonderful time of the year. A
time when you marsh outside and enjoy
nature at its finest; watch the garden,
flowers or crops grow and tune into
nature. Listen to the birds singing as you
-recline in a comfortable chair soaking up
the sun or enjoy the evening breeze as
you read your -paper and enjoy a -cup of
coffee. 'Sounds fluttaStic, tight?
I thought so mail the other evening. I
was by myself and around 8 p.m., I
decided :instead of inuidng In front -of the
babe tube I would take the daily paper,
a cup Of coffee and relax on the deck.
The birds were having a gay time in :the
willow tree, singing and talking to each
other; there was a very soft breeze blow-
ing; the temperature was just right for
me. As 1 reposed my fatigued body I
conjectured that this was the life. That
thought held for close to 20 minutes as I
caught up on the vile 'happenings of the
world.
My sense of peace was rudely inter-
rupted by the timing of insects swarm-
ing around my head. Little ugly things
were :trying to travel down my ear canal
and reach the .grey matter. Mosquitoes
attached themselves to my bare arms,
feet and face seeking food for survival.
My arms were flaing and my temper
began to boil as these nervy little devils
.invaded my privacy and serenity. Larger

What had been a state of relaxatiOn
turned hito a battle between minute in-
sects and a 8'6" raving maniac. Thank
goodness we live in the country and the
spectacle I made of tnyself, as ,1
threatened these officious little bugs with
their life, was not viewed by anyone
other than the birds and my eat.
I had forgotten during the winter
months that the Livingston insects do not
appreciate being disturbed by humans.
Afterall it is their territory and if one is
dense enough to attempt relaxation out
doors and enjoy a cup of coffee as the
sun sets, one should be willingto put up
with the inconvenience of being attacked
by those whose region you have raided.
As I fought off my intruders, I
remembered the odd time we have at-
tempted to eat a meal outside. This is a
very dangerous endeavour - swinging
your hands that hold a fork and knife can
be hazardous to oneself or the person sit-
ting next to you!
I have been told that wearing perfume
or hair spray attracts these low life bugs
and a product called 'Muskol acts as a
repellant. If fragrant .scents attract
perhaps body odour repels. As I have a
strong dislike for anything that brings
about sweating I guess 1,11 make a trip
to the drug store and purchase a bottle
