Thursday, May 4, was Anniversary Day
at Brookside, as students, teachers and
guests celebrated20 years of being part of
the 'Huron County Board of Education.
During the day students learned about
education in the past in their classes, and
they grouped into "one -room
schoolhouses" for part of the afternoon.
At the end of the day, a live was planted
in honour of the amiiversary, with the help
of Marian Zinn, our trustee 20 years ago,
and Tony McQuail, our Current trustee.
The _entire student body sang a lovely
tree song; found and taught to them by
Mrs. Worsell and Mrs. Webster, accom-
panied by Mrs. Scott playing the piano,
Mr. Errington, one of Brookside's
"ahunni", kindly shared his sound system.
Marian Zinn and Tony McQuail both
shared memories of the past and Mr.
-Tremeer, Brookside principal, alsospoke.
Danielle McClinchey spoke on behalf of
Student Council and Daryl Gibson and
Keith Todd assisted with the planting.
The sun was shining, the skywas a dear
blue, and the young voices in song were
delightful. We were thrilled to have so
many members of the community turn out
for the afternoon, and to see so many

The afternoon closed -with:presentation
of a special cake decefated with .a one

great day,.
The Brookside Broadcast Editors were
busy too, visiting classes and taking -notes
on the various amiiversary- activities.

INIMICAINT
Mrs. Scott's class had an old-fashioned
hands, nails, teeth and hair health check,
and played games from long ago. In her
one -room schoolhouse the school learned
how to play marbles. We hear Nathan
Daer nearly got the STRAP in a pretend
drama with Mrs. Scott!
Mr. Culp's group sang "God Save The
Queen," and did math from old texts - fun
but hard!
Mrs. Cober's group made a fine crest
With streamers using the Brookside logo,
and Miss Rennie taught games of long ago,
including "hopscotch".
Mr. Hailitt's schoolhouse made silhouet-
tes of the students, while Mr. Spinal's
group compared the schools of yesterday
and today.
Mr. Liddle's schoolhcLlse worked in
groups to list differences we would find
between then and now.
We learned a lot on our Anniversary
Day ! Mr. Woodall saved.the day for us on
videotapes. We'll have to have a look at
that tape in the year 2009!
