Fishing season opened this past weekend and area residents of all ages were trying their
luck at local streams. Trevor Moffat spent some time Sunday afternoon at the dam at
Treleaven's mill pond, Unfortunately, Trevor wasn't able to give us a real tall fish tale!

Joan Black's grade two students at LCPS
had the opportunity to see a home being
built. Well...not your usual way of building
- this was a Royal Home being placed on a
foundation hi Lueknow. The mammoth
crane and pieces of the house being moved
around were something new for the
students. (Pat Livingston photo)

Upcoming 4-H ciubs
Learning more about yourself and your
community is the aim of a senior 4H pro-
ject available in 1989 called Community
Citizenship.
The project will guide members on a
local discovery tour - through their
municipal/government, history, ethnic
culture, social agencies, and volunteer
organizations.
Community Citizenship will also focus
on the individual's talents and skills - the
ones they have, as 'well as the ones they
would like to develop.
Part of the project Will be a local needs
assessment, followed by a plan to address
those needs:
Horticulture
Tired of mowing that steep slope or try-
ing to grow grass in that shady spot? Wish
you could see through the front windows
but they're blocked by overgrown trees
and shrubs? Plants make a big difference
in how a home looks from the outside and
how the outside looks from in the home.
"Let's Landscape" is a 4.1°1 Horticulture
project which can help you understand or-
namental plants and their many uses.
Learn about the many kinds of trees and
shrubs available, how to plant, prune and
care for them and some of the pests and
diseases that attack them.
Discover how landscaping can make
your yard more private or your entrance
more inviting. See how ;plaac> l>I,g an make
plants work for you to provide a cool spot
for relating, agrassyarea for Pining ora
colorful area for your ,enjoyment.
- H NEWS
With fellow 4-H members, you will learn
how to create a landscape design and how
to choose the plants to go in it. Measuring
and "mapping out" an existing yard and a
visit to a local nursery are just two of the
many activities.
Social Recreation
Getting people to mix at meetings or ac-
tivities is one of the hardest things to do.
Learn the techniques of successful "mix-
ers" and much more by taking the 4-H
Social Recreation project.
During six meetings, members will
learn and practice the basics of social
recreation, by planning a social recreation
program and leading the program for
another community group. Public speak-
ing tips, evaluating programs, and situa-
tion assessment are also part of the Social
Recreation project.
These projects start in early May at a
club near you. 441 clubs are open to youth
who were 11-21 years old before January 1,
1969.
To find out more about these 441 pro-
jects, contact the Ontario Miniatty of
Agriculture and Food, 10 Jackson Street,
