rookside students interview

An Interview With
Miss Morton
Miss Morton is a first-year teacher,
teaching Grade 3 at Brookside.
She was born in .Seaforth, which means
she has some knowledge of the area
around Brookside. The only career Miss
Morton really every thought of having was
teaching. She got into the teaching profes-
sion because she likes kids and"her parents
are also teachers.
Miss Morton went to teachers college for
six years before she started teaching.
Miss Morton prefers to teacn around the
grade she's teaching now because she
knows where the kids are coming from,
they've started to learn a bit of reading
and writing and are also starting to have
some independer-ce. Her favorite subjects
to teach are : environmental studies and
the language area. She enjoys both her
weekends away from the kids and her days
teaching.
Miss Morton's favourite sport to watch is
hockey. In her spare time she likes to curl,
do aerobics and visit with friends. Miss
Morton's favorite season is summer so she
can go swimming, which is another sport
she enjoys.
All in all, Miss Morton is like most
teachers: She enjoys teaching, but is hap-
py that she can have some time to herself
so she can do the other activities s e hikes:
K1, Mrs. Cameron
We are learning about measurement. It
was fun measuring things With a piece of
string and our arms. We put our height
strips into order from the tallest to the
shortest.

working on counting money with dimes
and pennies. They have also been learning
to spell and read using the computer.

get into the Spring spirit. We planted mini -
gardens and are busy working on .Spring
centres.
We are learning our adding and take
away stories to 10.

The Wonder Tree had a wonderful treat
last week. We received a package of let-
ters from our Pen Pal class, a grade 2/3 at
Ripley! Mrs. Liddle's class sent us some
great letters and pictures! We're writing
back and may even get to meet them
someday! We've also begun our stories for
hardcover books, and are knee-deep in
math facts. 13 plus 5, 4 X 6, and 17-8! Lind-
say Irvin and •Rachel Cameron are our
"Special Me's".

The students in grade four, are studying
plants. We have just planted peanuts and
expect that they should grow. In May we
are going to be talking about Medieval
Times.
Grade 4/5, Room P2
Our class had a Box Social. All the boxes
were very well decorated with lots of col-
ours and decorations in fact some of the
girls dressed up like ladies used to in Tie
1860s. Before we had the Box Social our
talented teacher Mr. Culp taught us how to
square dance. Next Monday the boys will
make boxes for the girls.
Room 6 Readers
For the past two weeks we have been.
learning about cartooning. We've written
directions for making two kinds of paper
animation. We have also started reading
several mini novels which are really ex-
citing. Soon we'll begin a group novel
study.
Grade'G, Room 12
Our superb grade six, room 12 class have
been making giant and hairy Yeti
creatures. First we traced our partners on
a sheet of large paper. Then we made the
outlines more "muscular" and coloured
mem with pastels. We hope everyone did
great on the music test!
Grade 7, Room 10
This week in home ec we did four ac-
tivities about our families.
On Friday, Mrs. Graham is coming in
for an art class. Also we are watching our
commercial videos and some are really
funny. In health we are studying AIDS.
History we watched a movie called The
Story of St. Marie Among the Hurons. In
spelling we made our own spelling lists.
Grammar we are shortening sentences.
Grade 7/8, Room 8
This week in gym we are practising for
track and field day. In history the grade
sevens are doing research about the
French and the grade eights are doing an
essay on Confederation.
