to have tusks
By Steve Porter
Once upon 'a time way back when
elephants had no tusks was a group of
elephants and in this group there was a
family and in this family there was a little
boy elephant He was very . different you
see to have fun he rammed rocks with his
head. None of the other boy elephants did
this but he found it amusing. Everybody
thought that he was crazy. But he just
simply replied in a soft voice it's just my
way of having fun. His parents said that it
was wrong, but he knew that they were
just ashamed of him so he kept on doing it.
One day when he was out having his weird
kind of fun he came across a chunk of
ivory. Just as he was about to ram it he
noticed that it was getting dark and little
elephants aren't supposed to be out in the
dark alone so he went back to where the
group was. That night he told his mom
ggrti c iox auusu' t to-sta-y away
from it, it was dangerous and very sharp.
The next morning he woke up and went to
where he had saw the ivory the night
before and being the bad little boy he was,
he took a run at it and two sharp pointy
pieces stuck into him, one on each side of
the mouth. So that's how elephants came
to have tusks.
A Greek Myth For Rain
By Tammie Bolte
Long ago there was a centaur who would
not behave. Almost every day he would
tease the minators in the magical valley
and fed Pegasus prunes with his hay. This
and many other doings deeply bothered
the mortals and heros that lived around
him He had been punished many times.
He had been whipped, he had been sent to
his room without supper and he had been
grounded but nothing seemed to work.
Finally he had caused so much trouble,
he had to be banished from his home to the
lonely forest where he could bother no one.
The gods were sad because they loved
him very much but there was nothing else
to do with him They started to cry. They
cried so much that the cloud they were
standing on got soaked and began to leak.
From this day on when it begins to rain,
you'll know that little centaur has someone
to pity him

The moon
My favourite unit in Environmental
Studies was the moon. I would like to tell
you some of the things I learned.
.On the moon one side is hotter than the
other. The sun only shines on one side at a
time.
The moon is different than the earth. On
the moon there is no air, no water and no
wind.
It would be fun to play on the moon
because you could jump really high. You
co—heavy racks and throw mem.
To live on the moon you would have to
build a space, station. It would be fun to
wear a space suit when we were outside.
We would have races with our space
vehicles.
I liked studying about the moon but I like
living on the earth.

rency
urrency Museum at the Bank of Canada just

Here's A my
Hi my name is Amy. My speech is about
my family. I have a sister, a mother, and a
father; but not a brother. My sister is
smaller than me. Her name is Lori. It is
pretty hard being a sister. Sometimes I
have to take Lori to the bathroom, feed her
and help her dress. Sometimes I like to
play with her but sometimes she bothers
me. She doesn't listen to me all the time.
I love my family - even my, sister.

Nifty Candy
Once upon a time there was a little girl
named Candy. She had a hat with fruit on
it. One day the sun was too bright so she
went in to get her hat. Then everybody said
nifty nifty.

Farm
I live on a farm. On my farm there are
pigs, cows, hens and a rooster. My
favourite animals are the cows. Believe it
or not, I ride on them. My pet cow is named
Joey. He is not afraid of me.
I do chores on my farm. Some of my jobs
are fun. I•like to put down the hay and I like
to feed the pigs.
Some things I don't like to do are clean-
ing out the pens or the gutter. The smell is
not very nice.
We grow some crops on our farm like
alfalfa, corn and grain. We use the crops to
get money. Dad takes grain to the mill We
use the crops to feed our animals in the
winter.
when you Iivre un -alarm yuuyr-to be
careful. There are many safety rules on a
farm. My brother fell through a hole in the
barn. He was lucky. He landed in the hay.
You must work very hard on the farm
but there are many fun things to do too. I
like my farm and I'm glad I'm a country
boy. Chris Harper
