These past two weeks we have been lear-
ning about farm animals. We set up a farm
on the table in our classroom which we all
enjoyed playing with. We made our own
farm books and one big book to share with
family and friends. Spring has finally
come and we are all looking for the signs of
Spring. We went on a spring walk, along
the creek in the school yard and looked for
all the changes.
Grade 1
We finished up our Unit on Wind and
Weather by finding picture of inventions
that use wind. We used our hot air popcorn
maker for a special treat and had a kite
flying contest. Our special book readers
last week were Danielle, Aaron, Keith,
Jodan, Amanda and this week were Alicia,
Marc, Chris, Angela, Justin. Well done
everyone.
Grade 2/3
Everyone in our class was proud to wear
a blue reading badge on Monday. We have
read over 500 books this year. Our Library
Loto winners are: Tim Visser, Jackie
Freeman, Rachael Bushell, Steven
Spanswick, Ean Moffat, Laura Parker,
Jason Ellis, Sherrie McCracken.
Grade 3/4
The grades 3 and 4 students have been
busy following the play-off hockey games.
They were surprised when the Oilers were
eliminated. They are continuing to follow
their basebar chafes and graphs to.'Now
that it is spring baseball fever has hit in
our room too. Jonathan MacKinnon can
run around the bases very quickly and
Trevor Humphrey throws from base to
base very well.
Grade 4
This week in grade four we are almost
finished our Charlie and the Chocolate fac-
tory centers. We have also started a road
to the Stanley cup.
Grade 5
We have had a number of interesting
discussions this week. We talked about
Hitler's birthday on the 20th and about
summer camp among other things. Also,
we wrote about problems that are en-.
countered when we are locked out of the
house. We talked about getting lost and
decided that when we get lost we can
usually be found in sporting goods, clothes,
`CPS INSIDER
music or pet departments of huge depart-
ment stores. We have been working on a
Great Lakes Environmental Pollution unit
that has resulted in some interesting work
on dumps and the role of dumps in the
pollution problem and how it relates to the
Great Lakes.
Grade 6
In Grade 6 we have started multiplying
and dividing fractions in math.
Grade 6 saw a play on Friday called
"The Loon's Necklace". Everyone really
enjoyed seeing it. Other Grades 4, 5 and 6
students from Ripley and Teeswater also
watched the play.
Grade 7
This week the grade 7's have been busy
preparing for their history test which is
one April 27th. They are also working on
their Young Author's Conference books.
The good copy of our books should be
finished soon. • We got our math and
geography tests back with very good
results.
Grade 8
The class has been reintroduced to an
old mathematical friend, "Integers".
They are becoming quite knowledgeable
about this and would Welcome any
members of 'our community to ask how to
do it. Our literature and history immigra-
tion unit has entered its last phase of ac-
ceptance. Here we will explore how im-
migrants to Canada have accepted or re-
jected the Canadian culture and how Cana-
dians view these many varied groups.
Library
The mini book fair was a success. Many
children and parents had an opportunity to
purchase good books.
Music
Twenty-eight students are working very
hard on solos which they will be singing at
the Walkerton Music Festival, April 25 to
May 6. They will be representatives of our
school at the festival and we wish them
good luck. Mr. Burkhart's grade six class
will be competing with other grade six
classes singing "Live in Harmony". We
wish them good luck also.
