volves a cleanout of the open drain and the
replacement of the closed drain in Ashfield
Township as well as continuing use of the
existing crossing of Southampton Street and
the assumption that the existing sewer
through Lots 53 and 58 can also be used as is.
A new sewer would be built across Lots
3637, using concrete drain tile, and new
sewers would also be built on and east of
William Street.
A new sewer would be built across private
property between Albert and Joseph Streets
south of Clara Street, and retention ponds
and berms would be used at the three sur-
face water inflow locations. This would
result in minimal inflows to the sewer
system at these points.
This alternative would cost about $160,000.
If it is possible to use concrete drain tile for
the new sewers that are to be built along the
sides of existing roads, rather than concrete
storm sewer pipes, the cost could be reduc-
ed to about $140,000.
The report assumes the Drainage Act
would be implemented for any im-
provements. Under the act, owners of about
60 properties which would benefit from the
drain would share the cost.
The cancellation of the project means that
those who signed the petition must still pay
the preliminary engineering fees. McBride
estimated the cost to be about $250-$300 per
signing household.
