sit on the Zoning Bylaw Committee for the
village of Dungannon and include Kathryn
MeNee and Claude D'Aoust. These two
along with council form the whole cominit-
tee. The first meeting will be held April 25.
At the April 4 meeting of eotmcil, A. J.
Sherwood attended expressing his opinion
that he should have been chosen as one
representative. In addition he requested
that the road superintendent improve
parking at the Senior Citizens' Centre in
the village by applying more gravel and
levelling the area.
Council voted in favour of a $100 grant to
the Clinton Public Hospital for the year
1989.
Council had been approached regarding
amalgamation of the Lucknow Arena
Board and the Joint Recreation Commit-
tee. West Wawanosh is represented on
these two committees. Council agreed that
they had no objection to the amalgama-
tion, provided that no change is made in
the percentages now being paid for the
maintenance and operation of the arena.

Building permits were issued to Freddie
Valdez, for a portable office at John J.
Shelter Lumber and to Leila Shetler, for a
mobile home installation.

amended to indicate an -increase in

effective January 1,1989.
Council voted in favour of providing

$2.10 per ton for approximately 20,000
tons; $2.78 per cubic yard for approx-
imately 10,000 cubic yards and $1.60 for
stockpiling.
Council accepted Lloyd Jacklin's offer
for acquisition of the 1978 Ford 900 and
plow equipment. In exchange, Mr. Jacklin
will stockpile, during the off-season, 4500
cubic yards of crushed gravel.
Council meets next on May 2.
Meeting to discuss
plan for drainage
Dungannon residents will heardetails of
an engineer's drainage proposal which
could solve at least some of the flooding
problems in the hamlet
But Bob Edmunds, a spokesman for a
local citizens group, expects the "pat-
chwork" proposals to be more costly than
expected and be of little lasting benefit for
property owners.
Solving the surface drainage problem
could cost as much aS $3204000 or as little
as $140,000, according to the study, Ed-
munds said. "Even at $320,000, it's not
really going to change anything," he said.
Edmunds also said he expects full
details at the meeting tomorrow in
Dungannon (senior citizens centre, 8
p.m.), but the proposals appear to also
limit further development in the flood -
prone area.
"I don't think the reaction is going to be
too good," he said.
Under the terms of the drainage act,
owners of about 60 affected properties
must share the cost, although West
Wawanosh Township Council has said it
would pay a share for municipal proper-
ty as well as apply for whatever provin-
cial grants may be appropriate.
At tomorrow night's meeting, the
engineering proposal ii,M1 be explained
and, underthe drainage act, residents will
likely be kilted to decide which, if any,
they want to implement.
If the project does not proceed, residents
who signed the petition which initiated the
study inust still pay the preliminary
engineering fees.
A similar, but less -extensive study was
undertaken in 1972, but rejected by
residents at a public meeting.
Co-op education, one of the
better things school offers
by Michael Campbell
What do I say when someone asks me
about Co-op? I say it is one of the better
things a school can offer.
The co.operative education program at
F.E. Madill is very good. It offers a wide
range of choices. The main idea of the
class is to learn more about a specific
career that you are interested in . All the
students get job experience, independence
and rooponSibilities.
I work at Royal, Homes. I have done a
variety Of jobs. I started out by cutting
jambs for doors, then moved to installing
windows on the Ihie, -then to bypass and
pocket door •construction. Currently I am
helping with roofing.
The guys at the plant are very helpful.
Safety is impottant in any job you do, but
at Royal Homes it is one of the rnostimpor-
, tant parts of the job. There are safety
meetings that teach *11 0! the employees
about the dangers on the job.
I learn something new every day. The
work is very interesting and / try to find
out as much as Lcan, about it. At Royal
Homes they use first class materials and
'we. can take pride in our top quality
workmanship 011 a finished bottle. Practice
is one of the ways that I get better at my
job. After doinga specific job for a while
you geta little faster each time you do it.
