K1, Mrs. Cameron
We have been learning about spring. On
Tuesday we went to Robinson's Sugar
Bush. We . loved eating all of the sweet
things. On Thursday we made rain people.
K2
Mrs. Young's kindergarten class II has
been patterning in math. They have been
making patterned caterpillars with black,
yellow and orange paper. We are looking
for signs off spring No!
Grade 1, Room 1
Miss Jewitt's class has welcomed Spring
by visiting Robinson's Sugar Bush, mak-
ing spring flowers, and writing spring
booklets. In math they have been learning
about Skip Counting and Place Value.
Grade 1, Room 5
Miss Mathers' Grade Ones welcome Bil-
ly Atkinson to our classroom. We also hope
Josh Middelkamp is soon out of Goderich
Hospital and back with us.
This week we have been talking ,about
the Maple Syrup process and the many tas-
ty treats everyone enjoys at this time of
the year.
Grade 2, Room 3
Grade 2 went to the sugarbush this week.
We are also learning about the five senses
which are smell, sight, taste, touch and
sound. We are making paper people.
Grade 2/3, Room 4
The Wonder'Tree receiverdit certificate
for our acre of rainforest today. We bought
it through the World Wildli€e Fund
(WWF). Hooray! Hayley, Melanie, and
Tory had mail this week too ! They receiv-
ed an answering letter and poster -from
Karen Kain, the ballerina. Exciting! They
wrote to her when we studied "Women of
Canada". This week we've been writing
FANTASTIC stories all week, trying out
different writing styles. Jeff Andrew is our
"Special Me".
Grade 3, Room 9
Tasha, Bob, Brian, Marianne, Sam and
Jeff spent Thursday morning with Mrs.
Baskerville. They did research on animals
and presented their results to the class.
.The science .fair and book fair are on at
Brookside. Allison, Laura, Cathy, Mark,
Jeff, Donna, Bob, Roberta, Terry and Sam
showed their hobby, collection, or experi-
rment at the science fair. Laura was so ex-
cited she brought her collection in a week
early !
Grade 4/5, Room P2
After completing their centres, students
will have experienced what it was like in
early Ontario. Centres such as "The
Websters", "Dungannon and Lucknow,"
help give a local flavour.
Grade 5, Room P1
Mrs. Worsell's Grade Five class is stu-
dying articles and stories about famous
people. Some are doing research in the
library with Mrs. Blake.
Grade 6, Room 12
We have been busy working on music
and science projects. We will be having
New executive
for Huron- ..
Bruce NDP
The Huron -Bruce New Democratic Par-
ty's new executive is in place and ready
to go.
The executive members were elected at
a meeting of the riding associations held
Mar. 29 in Lucknow. The executive con-
sists of: Tony McQuail of Lucknow (NDP
candidate in the last federal election), who
was re-elected as president; Keith
Cleveland of Bervie (vice-president), Fran
McQuail of Lucknow (re-elected as
treasurer), Jocelyn de Boer of Lucknow
(re-elected as secretary), and Peter
Vaughn (Port Elgin) and Ron Purvis (Kin-
cardine) as members at large.
A public forum on provincial, issues was
also discussed at the Mar. 29 meeting.
Delegates for the NDP national convention
will be selected at the annual picnic and
meeting to be held in August at the
McQuails' farm. Plans have been made to
keep the Huron and Bruce riding associa-
tions actively working together.
Also, a proposal to host a joint meeting
,with another riding for candidates for the
national leadership will be pursued.
Hairdo Day on Monday April 10. On this
day we will be wearing far out, cool and
awesome hairdos. We have recently
changed our desks so that we sit in groups.
Grade 7, Room 10
This week we had two supply teachers
because Miss Rennie had laryngitis. In
gym we are starting to square dance.
Thursday and Friday we are presenting
our Science Fair projects.
Grade 7, Room 8
This week we did spelling on different
songs such as Paradise City, Hysteria,
Phantom Skateboarder and Possessed to
Skate. This was very fun ! We also set up
our project, we helped other classes set up
too. On Friday we helped take the projects
down. There were many good ones.
Grade 8, Room 11
In math we are doing volume of prisms.

ROOKSIDE BROADCAST
Both the girls and boys basketball teams
have been picked for the tournament on
April 14. We're doing science fair presen-
tations in science class. Our class is also
involved in the Book Fair.
Music
Grades one and two held musical toy day
on April 5. They brought favourite musical
toys to share with Mrs. Webster and their
class. We had musical dolls, flutes,
shakers, bongo drums and a uke. Randy
Reindeer could play 16 different tunes
when you squeezed his ears or tail. What
interesting sounds we heard !
Library News
The annual Brookside Book Fair was
held in the library on Thursday evening
and all day Friday. Classes toured the
book displays on Friday and many books
were sold. It was quite a success.
Special thanks. to the library assistants
who helped Mrs. Blake with the sale of
books and the collection of money.
Science Fair
On Thursday and Friday our school held
its annual Science Fair. Many students
participated in this event. The first and se-
cond place winners in the senior divisions
advanced to the Regional Science Fair in
Clinton. The winners were: Senior, first -
Ruth Anne Bakker, second - Nathan Daer,
third - Melissa Nicholson, Honourable
mention: Jodie Webster, Danny Kerr, Jen-
nifer Black and Kerri Snowden.
