Murray Elston, MPP for Bruce, Chair-
man of Management Board, and Minister
of Financial Institutions, today announced
on behalf of Housing Minister Chaviva
Hosek, that the Bruce County Non -Profit
Housing Corporation has been given the
green light to develop plans for 70 non-
profit housing units in Bruce County under
the provincial Homes Now housing
program.
The program has so far paved the way
for more than 160 community-based hous-
ing sponsors to plan more than 17,600 non-
profit housing units in 77 municipalities
across -Ontario.
"I am pleased that the Homes Now in-
itiative is gaining momentum in our
area," said Mr. Elston. "Non-profit and
lower-cost homes are as essenial in rural
areas as they are elsewhere."
"We are working closely with communi-
ty groups and organizations to ,help them
address the "housing needs in their com-
munities," said Chaviva Hosek, Minister
of Housing, "and I am convinced that the
lower-cost homes will be created faster
than many believe possible."
Under the Homes Now program,
municipal and private .non-profit . corpora-
tions, as well as non-profit co-operatives,
can build, buy or -lease buildings for non-
profit housing.
