Ag. society holding card party
On Monday, April 3 at 8 p.m. the Huron
To hip Agricultural Society, which spon-
sors tie Ripley Fall Fair, are holding a card
party in the Huron township hall in Ripley.
In charge of the euchre are directors Perrin
and Marion Lowry of the fourth concession
west at Lurgan Hill, and George and Bar-
bara Messenger at the sixth concession.
Each year we put on events to build up for
the prizes for the fair. I would have guessed
it would be slated for the last of September
as it has been these many years now.
A call to secretary Gordon Patterson con-
firmed that the Ripley Huron fall fair is
again slated for Friday and Saturday
September 29 and 30 - check it on your
calendar.
Geese coming north
On Good Friday morning about nine
o'clock the honking of Canada Geese was
heard here, on looking out the back door.

Ripley Postmaster Margaret Thompson
would like folks to know that starting Mon-
day, Apr. 10 Ripley Post Office will be dos-
ed over the noon from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

MITCHELL
Mrs. Georgia Donelda (Ritchie) Mitchell
passed away in University Hospital London
March 25, 1989. She was born August 20th,
1926.
She is survived by four daughters and
three sons. They are Lillian (Mrs. Donald
Pollard) Con. 8 Huron Township; Ella (Mrs.
_..Jack. Searso )..Pert -Dope ._Margaret(1', r&...
Adam Millar) of Inverhuron; Elaine (Mrs.
Robert MacKenzie) Kincardine.
Sons Donald Mitchell of Huron Township,
Thomas Mitchell also of Huron Township,
Maurice Mitchell, Kincardine Township and
nine grandchildren, also one brother and
three sisters.
Predeceased by husband Raymond, one
son Elmer, one daughter Jean, one grand-
son, one brother and her parents Emil and
Jane Ritchie. Funeral mil Tuesday at
MacKenzie McCreath Funeral Home. Spr-
ing interment Ripley Cemetery.
Sang for seniors' club
Ronnie Rack and his friend Elva Coveney
entertained the senior citizens at Huron
Villa last Wednesday night (March 22) .
Known as the "Stepping Stones" they
sang several sacred numbers accompanied
by tapes and later some of the old favourites
with Ronnie on the guitar, and everyone
joining m•

have for Many years given of their time and
talents, to entertain at Huron Villa and this
has been much appreciated.
How to care for shamrocks
The Ripley and District Horticulture
Society met at the home of Marion Gamble,
Mar. 21 at 1:30 p.m. Roll call was answered
by 24 members, present and one visitor.
Olwyn MacAuley spoke on the planting
and care of the shamrock and oxalice. Doris
Rock brought in a display of both the plants
Erma McDonald gave the courtesies.
Lunch was served by Marjorie Thompson
and Helen VanderGlas.
Quilters learn

Thirty-five ladies attended the March
meeting of the Five Star Quilters Guild in
Lucknow, March 22.
Sharon Stein presided and Betty Fieten
gave the rollcall : two completed Eccentric
Stars different arrmgemnts.
Members of the guild will soon be receiv-
ing name buttons which have 'been
designed.
Kits for quilt blocks, pieced or appliqued
were purchased. If the block is completed
money will be refunded. These blocks may
be shown at Teeswater, Lucknow, Ripley
or Mildmay Fairs.
Sharon Stein demonstrated how to
enlarge a pattern and displayed her wall
hanging.
Ruth McMann demonstrated machine
applique for the next quilt block, Sunbon-
net Sue.
The next meeting is in Teeswater, April
26 and ladies are asked to bring fabric
scraaps, a 16% inch square, 10 - 20 pieces
of print, 10 inch . green and flowered
material.
Mamie Roulston will demonstrate the
Maple Leaf and plans for a bus trip to New
Hamburg will be made.
