i. In 1958, 37,570 crops f contracts 1 were
protected by Crop Insurance. An increase
of 13.6 percent over 1987.
Crops insured in 1988 represented
2,559,110 acres; 16 percent more than in
1987.
3. Corn, soys, spring grain and forage ac-
counted for 71 percent of all acres insured
and over $30,000,000 in claims.
4. Of 1731 forage contracts in 1988, 1583
were in a claim position or 92 percent. For
every dollar insureds paid in premium the
forage program paid back over $11.00.
5. As of January 25th, 47 percent of the
corn contracts had claims in excess of
$11,750,000.
6. Soybeans have accounted.for $10,079,000
in viaiins compared to a premium income
of just over $6,100,000.
7. Of the 33 spring crop planso1d to
farmers by agents, 44 percent of over
27,000 endorsements had claims totalling
over $36,000,000.
8. Eighteen of 22 plans are in premium
deficit for . 1 I, and have paid out more
than $3.00 for every $1.00 of farmer
_premium..
9. 1' 1 total premium income from all
crops amount to just over $38,165,100.
10. The total claim amount will exceed
$53,000,000.
