Ontario residents are being warned to
ensure household furnaces and chimneys
have been thoroughly inspected within the
last year.
Fires and carbon monoxide poisoning
can be caused by malfunctioning heating
systems, says fuels safety experts with the
Ontario Ministry of Consumer and Com-
mercial Relations.
"The low cost of an inspection and clean-
ing can save enormous grief," says Bob
Clendining, director of the ministry's
Fuels Safety Branch. "Too many people
ignore this simple safety step and the con-
sequences can be tragic."
An annual checkup .is necessary for all
types of fuel burning heating systems -
gas, oil, and wood alike. Homeowners with
wood stoves or fireplaces should be par-
ticularly vigilant about having their
chimneys cleaned.
To get the best deal on an inspection and
any necessary maintenance, contact at
least three registered borne heating con-
tractors for estimates.
Information about contracts, home
renovations, buying services and many
other consumer issues is available from

farmer he never professes his faith
(Pentecostal) "right off the bat." He said
doing that will turn the farmer who may be
a non -believer off.
He said he also reads a lot of proverbs
and finds those quotes such as "The Lord
helps those who help themselves," work in
many stressful situations.
Mr. Ireland said he always tries to talk
about faith when helping a farmer because
of his past -experiences.
"If it was not with faith and family,
we(his family) wouldn't have made it,"
-throirgh `the- -of-losing the farm, --he
said, "It is tough to see people trying to
handle problems if they have no faith "
..Describing his workload, Mr. Ireland
said he has worked only 45 hours in the
month of December while in the month of
October .he .worked 168 hours.
Ministry suffering financial problems
The ministry is currently in the midst of
financial troubles itself, Mr. Ireland said,
and members are now appealing to all
churches for help.
He said each church will have to be ap-
pealed to on a different level. Lutheran
churches handle finances in each town in-'
dividually and United, Presbyterian and
Anglican churches- handle finances from a
central organization and Roman Catholic
churches have various committees handl-
ing their money.
Mr. Ireland said the ministry now has in-
formation brochures to give out and is at-
tempting to produce a video of its ac-
tivities to show to organizations such as
service clubs. The ministry is also working
on receiving money from Ivy Foundations
which donate willed money from the estate
of a deceased person.

cial and martial problems, Brenda Mason

Rural Ministry from her home near.
Belgrave. Mrs. Mason travels around the
Belgrave and Wingham area trying to
solve problems through referral to
.lawyers or counsellors. Brian Ireland
helps Brenda from the Teeswater area.
