Brookside students wish Mr. Blake Mrs. Jewitt speedy recovery

Best wishes to Mr. Blake for a speedy
recovery. We expect a well deserved rest
will help.
Brookside has been fortunate to have
Mrs. Shillinglaw helping in the office dur-
ing Mr. Blake's absence. She has had
previous experience in East Wawanosh
and Hohnesville schools.
To 'begin our March break we will see
"The Cat From Outer Space" and will be,
dismissed one hour early.
111 Miss Cameron
This week we learned about St. Patrick's
Day. We made a shamrock man.
Grade One, Room One
Miss Jewitt's grade one have been work-
ing hard skip counting by twos, fives and
tens. They filially got a chance to go out-
side to play some snow games. Our
neighbours in the school will be wishing we
would -keep our door shut as we have
started a very loud theme about "Noises".
Grade One, Room Five
Miss Mathers was away for part of last
week and we would like to thank Mrs. Bak-
ker for supplying. We are doing journals
and printing, addition, subtraction and
craft centres.
Grade Two, Room Three
They are doing a unit on friendship.
They are making a rhyming books on bet-
ter ways toget places, tor exam* "take a
bee Lee." They Also made a face and wrote
a friendship story under it.
Grade Two/Three, Room Four
The Wonder Tree tried a food from Peru
this week (with help from Mrs. McQuail! )
We tried "Huancayo", a spiced cheese
sauce on cold potato patties. Some folks
thought it was great! Others thought
maybe -they'd never touch it again as long
as they lived! Potatoes began in Peru, so
perhaps Pancha also ate Huancayo
sometimes! Kevin Lohse and Tory

Grade Three, Room Nine
We're still working on our multiplication
tables! This week we're learning about St.
Patrick's Day. St. Patrick came from
Ireland. Every March 17, the people of
Ireland have a parade to celebrate the
day. In Canada, people remember St.
Patrick by wearing green or by wearing
shamrocks. Top o' the morning to you!
Grade Five, Room P -One
The pupils in Mrs. Worsell's grade five
class have been wilting Animal Adventure
stories as a "finish -up" to their Animal
Unit.
Grade Five, Room P -Two
The three star hockey activities for por-
table two were Maurice "the rocket"
Richard, Penalty Box, and Hockey Cards.

cards we learned that no hockey players
are the same. In the penaltybox we learn-
ed different penalty signals and rules.
GradeSix, Room Twelve
Room 12 had a math test on Wednesday,
on multiplying. On Thursday we will have
the rest of the test on dividing. We got our
science tests back. The Seniors started
basketball house league on Feb. 28. The
juniors started broomball on Wed. March
lst. Room 12 can't wait until March break.
Grade Seven, Room 10
We have handed in our Music projects.
Some of us are doing airbands, some of us
are doing booklets and presentations. We
finished our texture bulletin board in art.
In history to finish our Inuit Study we 'are
going to play Inuit games. A1sQ we are
starting a new unit in history. It is called
"The community of New France". In
geography we are starting climate and
weather.
Grade Seven/Eight, Room Eight
This week we are bisecting angles. We
also have been constructing triangles.
Tomorrow our class will be presenting our
music projects. Some of us will be doing
• airbands and others will be doing booklets
about famous and up to date composers.

We've started house league basketball.
We had a math test. We handed in our
geography projects and our musk
projects.
Room Six Readers
The boys have been busy preparing for
Purple Cow Day on Friday, March 3. All
week they have been writing about purple
cows, making up recipes for a delicious
dish called "Purple Cow" and changing
the rhymn in the following poem.
"I thought I saw a purple cow!
I thought I'd never see one.
But I can tell you anyhow
I'd rather see than be one."
We'll let you know what we thought of
"Purple Cow" next week!

Everyone at Brookside would like te

return to help with the spring concert. The
music, projects that Mrs. Jewitt assigned
to grades six -eight have been handed in.
