Mr. Montgomery's $23;500 cheque "will benefit everyone in the village," said Reeve Herb Clark. 'This village's share of the project has been estimated at #885,308, which is 15 percent, with the government picking up 85 percent of the tab. This donation reduces the ,amount of money the village would have toborrow. When Mr. Montgomery was asked what had prompted awn to make this ,donation, he Said, that since 'coming to Lucknow in net* people of this village and surroun- ding area were very supportive of his business, and he felt it fitting he ;put something .back into the -community The amendment to the official plan is ihroughdthe certificated approval has been received from the Ministry of En- viroment. John Pollard and Donna Sue Errington will act as auditors. The association is not 'a fund raising organization, but rather a group in- ; terested in presenting a neat and tidy business community that will attract both local residents and visiting tourists. In that regard the association hopes to have the main street hosed down in the spring and have new garbage bins installed. The association provides funds for the purchase of a wreath and its placement during the Remembrance Day Service; supports and provides funds for the San- • to Claus Parade and treats for the children. In 1988 the association sponsored a band for Celebrate '88; promoted the Lucknow Craft Fesitval; worked with the Horitcultural Society to plant trees on the main street; sponsored a Christmas poster contest. Repairing and purchas- ing Christmas decorations is an ongoing expense. The Christmas tree at the post office was a new project. The assoctnttons—an hl-hrisuauts --- Party continues to be successful. The Lucknow Tourism Committee grew out of the business association. In addition to supporting it financially, the 'association provides ideas to promote the village. Three new businesses have been welcomed to the town in recent weeks. The spring promotion will be held April 12 - 15., Regular meetings are held the • first Wednesday of each month at 8 a.m. at Kwan's Restaurant. All members are welcome to attend. Help available for compulsive eaters In recent years a trend has been iden- tified that some individuals have a pro- blem with eating compulsively. Food becomes a focus in life as oppos- ed to, being only part of one's life. Many theories are offered on causes and possi- ble means of controlling this disorder. Fortunately for Wingham and area, a group has been established to deal with these concerns on a monthly basis. This is a joint project of Nutrition Services of Wingham and District Hospital and Wingham Community Psychiatric Services. If interested in participating contact Barb Major-Mcgwan at 357-3210, ext. 276 or Pat Lane 357-1614 for further details. In like a lion -out like lamb, or in like a lamb - out like a lion? Either of these statements is probably .a personal opi- nion on the month of March. Let's hope it was in like a lion - out like a fib. While the winter really hasn't been all that tough on .us, it's time for spring and all that comes with it.
