LCPS kindergaten class enjoys piaying in snow
By Barry Davidson and
Shawn Belmore
Kindergarten
Snow ! Snow! Snow ! What fun it is to play
in the snow. We have spent a lot, of time
outside this week enjoying the snow and
hills. On Friday we brought our crazy
carpets and slid down the hills. What fun !
We finished our "Love Books" and
shared them with our friends in other
classrooms. We started our very own jour-
nals also, and enjoy writing in them and
sharing them• with Mrs. Lash and our
friends.
Grade l
We are learning the vowel "E" this
week. As we brainstorm words that have
ee, ea, or ey, we discover what good
spellers we can be, by trying to spell the
answers to Mrs. Bell's riddles.
We are dramatizing our favourite fairy
tales to show the fun we can have as a
"family".
Crystal is "Special Me" and brought her
favourite picture and treasure to share.
Grade 2
Grade two wants to congratulate Mike
Irwin for being -"super star" of the week.
He has demonstrated rule number two on
the super -star list - Be polite 'to everyone.
We are enjoying our unit on feelings. The
poems we made up about ourselves were
fun to share. Here is the one we made up
about Mr. Pike:

Grade 2/3 have started on a neww upit on
Birds. We watched a movie "Th'e.Way of a
Bird" and have learned about Cardinals.
We now realize if we start to feed the birds
we must continue.
On Wednesday we were very sad when
Tim Visser bumped his tooth on the slide.
You were big and brave Tim.
Grade 3
Grade threes have been working hard on
their multiplication tables and have en-
joyed alot of success.
Grade fours are doing well on dividing
wi remainders.
3/4 classroom is learning about
which nutriments are found in certain
foods, and are having fun doing ex-
periments. We are learning some basket-
ball skills in gym class.
Grade 5
We are really involved in school this
week. We're ,working on measurement in
math and, Bruce County in E.S.
We talked about censorship and decided
that arbitrary censorship is not good, cen-
sorship of some materials is a good idea.
We also had an interesting discussion on
freedom of expression and freedom of the
press.
Grade 6
Grade six has been very busy finishing
their Mexico booklets and having small
tests in between.
Everyone is excited about going to the
Outdoor Educat Centre on Wednesday
March 8th -18th. -

writing tests this week. Math, french, and
music tests were done. Many of the
students received the new Lucknow shirts.
We are continuing to use the word pro-
cessor on the Icons. Everyone is looking
forward to March Break.
Grade 8
We have begun a variety of activities
that will help us to interpret the flood of in-
formation that comes our way daily
through such media as T.V., billboards,
videos, magazines and radios. It is our
hope to sharpen our abilities to analyze,
organize, and put together information.
One of our first activities taught ns • how
formal introductions should be handled.
We would all like to be considered as ladies
and gentlemen.
Special Education

ting ready for a math test and a spelling

Thin Ice coming to Blyth
• The Blyth Festival is pleased to an-
nounce that a special performance of the
zany musical, Thin Ice, (produced by the
Muskoka Festival) will be performed here
in April, for one night only. A cross bet-
ween Spring Thaw and The Royal Cana-
dian Air Farce, Thin Ice by Jim Betts and
Doug Ellis appears at BlythMemorial Hall
on Saturday, April 1, 1989 at 8 p.m. Cana-
dian . Press says Thin Ice, the hockey
musical, is filed with hilarious jokes and
"even, those who hate 'hockey would enjoy
the play, which not only pokes fun at
Canada's No. 1 sport but features
Canada's No. 2 past -time - CBC bashing".
All in all, "it's a charmer of a musical,"
says the Ottawa Citizen.
Here's the way the story goes... The CBC
plans to film a documentary on the
"greatest hockey fan today" - Mike, who
becomes a trainer during the Canada -
Russia play-offs. But he's manipulated by
Amanda, the head of CBC's Serious Pro-
gramming Department, who plans to
destroy the game of hockey forever, so no
more of her specials will be pre-empted by
a series- play-off. The zany musical
features moments to warm your heart,
memorable music, intrigue and unforget-
table impersonations of Wayne Gretzky
(he sings! ), Danny Gallivan and Barbara
Frum. At Molly's Bar you'll also meet a
bunch of the regulars who are the kind of
guys who are forever hollering
CANHCKS !
Commissioned by CBC . Radio in 1984,
thousands of Canadians heard the broad-
cast in 1985' of this rollicking musical
hockey fantasy, including Muskoka
Festival's Artistic Director, Michael
Ayoub.
Thin Ice tickets are available now at the
Blyth Festival Box Office. Tickets are sell-
ing quickly and are sold on a first come,
first served basis. Don't delay!
