February has been a wonderful month.
We made a "LOVE" book about all the
things we love and baked cookies in the
shape of hearts for our Valentine's party.
Mom and Dad found out how much we lov-
ed thein when we made them a giant heart
Valentine. We are starting, to write up our
own journal. We think this will be fun!
Grade 1
For Heart Month, Grade one have made
a list of Be Kind rules, and a booklet about
A Friend. We have watched movies called
Play Fair, `The New Boy, and Bully.
We have made dough hearts to wear as
necklaces. Our Special Me was Andy
Evans.
We made Danielle's birthday cake and
ate it at our Valentine Party.
Grade 2
Our 100th day finally arrived. What an
exciting day! We didn't know 100 could be
so much fun. We blew up 100 balloons (with
the help of Grade 8), we -delivered 100
Valentines, wrote 100 words and made 100
hand prints. The best part ^of all was our
-. cake with 100 candles. Thank you to all the
parents and staff members who helped to
make our day such a success!

Winter finally arrived and we enjoyed a
snow -shoeing party followed by hot
chocolate and chips on Monday afternoon.

us busy. P.J. Passmore and Rob Symes
.were the winners of the :scavenger hunt

items because we could only look around
the playground Sat the back of the school.

lots of fun with Miss Matte making

We are really enjoying our new En-

and homemade chocolate cake.
Library News
The library is the place to be on Friday
during noon hour as 30 people meet for 20
minutes of uninterrupted, sustained silent
reading. Just imagine taking a trip with a
book and never leaving home!
News from Mr. Pike,
Night school classes for the computers
will begin on Wednesday, March 1. It was
;e oliiy course that receiv:s
registrations.
I recently attended a workshop in Lon-
don in which a number of school principals
discussed ways that education should en-
courage students to stay in school.
Major points that were raised include:
attitudes of success and self worth are for-
mulated at a very early age; home and
school must work very hard during a
child's early years to invoke a positive self
image and attitude; skills and attitudes
are equally important to the accumulation
of pure knowledge facts.
This all fits in very well with our school
goals at L.C.P.S. which are: help each
child develop a positive self system; help
each child develop skills to become effec-
tive adults in the 21st century.
Students actually drop out in high school
(age 16) but what has been established
years before is often a contributing factor!
