Gordon Montgomery purchased the business from Ed Renwick in 1948 and the the Ford dealership has continued to grow over the years, both in sales of new and us- ed cars and service to all makes of trucks and cars. While Mr. Montgomery purchased the business in '48, due to a quoto system, the first new cars he sold were '49's. Originally, Montgomery's sold cars, trucks and tractors. The tractor shop was on Inglis Street and was subsequently sold to Stuart Reavie. In February 1988, Montgomery Motors Limited, Lucknow moved into new premises just west of its original location. Ian Montgomery, president and manager of Montgomery's is very proud of the way the business has grown, from ap- proximately five employees in 1948 to twelve fulltime employees in 1989; from the small garage up the street to their large new facilities, equipped with the latest service equipment, such as "The Bear". During the demolition of the former building that housed the business, an old poster was found from 1915. Prices quoted were : Ford Touring Car $530, Ford Runabout $480, Town Car $780. These prices were F.O.B. Ford, Ontario, effec- tive August 2, 1915. "No speedometer in- cluded in this years equipment, otherwise cars fully equipped." This award is the highest given out by Ford and is based on customer satisfac- tion, market share, truck leadership and dealer,profitability. PROFESSIONALLY PREPARED WATSON AND SCHMIDT U.C.W. study South Africans The three units of Lucknow U.C.W. met in the fellowship room at the Lucknow United Church on February 7, with an at- tendance of 24. Marion MacFarlane presided and after welcoming everyone, she gave the announcements. The opening hymn was sung accom- panied by Edith Webster. Ella Hackett read the scriptures and Edith Webster read the meditation "Prayer our lifeline to God", with the prayer taken by Phyllis Morrison, also a reading "God is no stranger". Edith Webster played an instrumental and sang "A Touch of God's Hand". Ella Hackett gave several short readings. Phyllis Morrison gave an interesting in- troduction to our film on South Africa demonstration, the ratio of the black and white population and the amount of land held by each group. Laura Lee Cayley had a discussion following the film which was most interesting and informative. The units then separated for their own business portion. Unit 1 Laura Hare presided for the business of Unit 1 of the Lucknow U.C.W. which was held in the parlor February 7. Isobel Miller gave the treasurer's report. The roll call, a current event about South Africa was answered by eight members. The minutes of the last meeting were given. Helen Todd gave the Fellowship of the Least Coin on Malaysia. Evelyn Cook reported on Community Friendship and Visiting. Laura Hare reported for Supply and Assistance that soon they would have three quilts- ready for ladies to come to help tie. Don't forget next meeting we go to the school at one o'clock courtesy of Mr. Pike. Unit No. 3 Shirley Bolt gave the treasurer's report which showed 12 members at the end of January. The general offering was taken, also the Collection for the Least Coin. Two bir- thdays in February added to our birthday jar funds. The minutes were read and approved. The roll call was answered by giving an article on South Africa. The roll call was answered with a verse on Love. Mrs. Gerald McFarlane chaired the pro- gram with the theme South Africa. She opened with a poem. Mrs. Cliff Menary read the scripture. 'The meditation was given by Mrs. McFarlane on The Journey of Keith, a South African in his mid thirties, who now lives in Saskatchewan, The African prayer for Lent was given following the offering. ..-short skit was acted out with Mrs. `McFarlane posing as a politician in Africa asking for complaints, which were given by Mrs. Clarence Ritchie. Conditions in Africa as to the white and black population and- how unfairly land is divided was described. Mrs. Gordon Cayley showed a video on the success story of a young black woman, telling what it was like to grow up in -South Africa. Mrs. Cayley followed with a group discussion on the video. In the absence of the unit leader, Mrs. Cayley conducted the business with all repeating the U.C.W. Purpose. Mrs. Ken Cameron gave the treasurer's report. Mrs. Bob Finlay conducted the Fellowship of the Least Coin with prayer for Nicaragua. Mrs. Stuart Collyer reported for citizen- ship; Mrs. Cliff Crawford for community friendship and Mrs. Cayley for social functions. Wilbur wins euchre On February 10 the Lucknow Hor- ticultural Society's annual euchre party was held at the Legion Hall with 10 tables playing. The high winners were Kay Crawford, Wilbur Brown and Edina Jean Haldenby tied with Wilbur winning the draw. Low, Marion Campbell and Harvey Ritchie. Muriel Ritchie occupied the "Lucky Chair," .while Stella Tilbrook, Laverne Cooper, Lloyd MacDougall ,and David Swan were the "lucky table" winners.
