As 1969 gets started, the Bruee County
Federations sof Agriculture f BCFA) is
preparing itself for another busy year. 1988
closed off with the : CFA taking a positive
outlook arra how we -.:re going to approach
the farm situation.
We fully realize that the farm financial
situation has not improved for many
farmers and others .are seeing their posi-
tion deteriorateafter a difficult 1986. Many
of the old problems still exist .and we are
not going, to ignore the people involved in
these problems. We have reaffirmed our
position to help organizations such as the
Queen's Bush Ministry in meeting their
mandate to help.farm families.
Having said.#his, I believe our organiza-
tion must also be looking to the future. We
have to build upon the positives that exist
in the farm community. To do so, we must
look back upon our successes and failures
and use these as building blocks.
To achieve this goal, we have struck a
special committee to establish where we
would. ike to see agriculture 10 years down
theroad. This committee : as well will
recommend ways to assure a farm future
for .ourinembers.. inderthe chairmanship
of ,a er yPoechman, it will be looking for

rVe w311 also beiookingatwaysto get our
membership -more involved. We believe it
is very:important to get this involvement.
to keep our, organization in touchwith the
community To achieve this goal, our
meetings eomrtrittee -will be setting up
special. interest -meetings throughout 1989.
Asthe new president of BCFA, if iron very
pleased at the quality of directors on •our
board. They represent•a very broad spec-
trum of the farm community and bring a
very diversified base of experience and
ideas to your county federation. We have
many new directors to blend in 'with our
older veterans to give a good sense of
direction for the BCFA.
The 1980's have been hard times
membership -wise for the BCFA. For the
first time inmany years; our representa-
tion on the Onthrio Federation of
Agriculture board has dropped to three.
We will be trying very hard in '89 to regain
our fourth voice.
When a federation representative calls
on you in 1989 for a membership, consider
the pluses. You have the opportunity to .get
good prices on-equipmentfror<nthe Ontario
Farm Machinery Agency. You receive The
Rural Voice and Farm . Country free.
Your membership gives you .a voice in a
recognized lobby organization.
You share in the gains we make and we
only ask that you help shoulder the cost of
aehi`evingthese programs that put dollars
in your pocket every year. Itisap to you to •
help the BCFA to ensure that there is a
priufita re orfarl vers: As ourmotto
says: 'In Iinity where's Strength.''
The time :has come for ..us .all to look
ahead -Help' us to be aproactive federation
planning for the future instead of .a reac-
tion group responding to others' failings

Lucknow's ElusiveT.nrkey
Last Wednesday, while I was running
around Lucknow trying to capture the
elusive turkey on film, Number One Son
• had already met bilin face to face - lifthe
car wash ! Yes, the turkey was in the car
wash bay when the yellow mustang went in
for its bath at 8.am. Now Number One Son
is usually _alittlewgroggyat.this hourandat
first thought he was dreaming, until the
turkey stretched up .and attempted to look •
in the driver's window. A few revs of the
motor did not move the .bird, so son gets
out starts thewashmachine, gives the bird
a little bath and :he waddled .away !
Conversation at the supper table on the
Wednesday night in question proved quite
humourous. After Number,One Son
relayed hisencounter with the urkey, Mr.
Fixit proceeded to divulge what he had
been up to during the afternoon.
Yes folks, Mr. Fixit was one of the
cowboys in trucks attesting -to uorralthe
steer that escaped from the Sales Barn.
As reported last week, the efforts were
unsuccessful.
Mr. Fixit had the escapee cornered,
however the steer being of a very strong
mind, :simply took his head and made con-
tactwith the.door of the truck, thereby im-
plying he had no intention of being cap-
tured! The implication was strong enough
that .Mr. Fixit decided to let him have his
own way!
