Grade K1
This week we learned about Groundhog
Day. We made a stuffed penguin and a
monkey that moves. Our groundhog puz%le
was fun to put together..
Grade 1 Room 1
Miss Jewitt's Grade I was disappointed
that the groundhog couldn't see his shadow
because they have been wishing for snow
so they can do some outdoors winter ac-
tivities. They have been working hard
learning their number facts and 3D shapes
in math.
Grade 1 Room 5
Miss Mathers' Grade Ones are having a
bear -y good iirne working on bear -related
activities. We are also busy practicing our
adding stories to 8 and our "take aways"
to 5.
Grade 2-3, Room 4
The Wonder Tree is looking forward to
Super Day on Friday. We'll be sharing our
super -hero adventure stories, and dressing
up as our created super -heroes ! We en-
joyed a trip to the library this week for
hero -sharing with Mrs. Blake. We learned
about many heroes all over, such. as Rick
Hansen. We've also been learning about
famous women of Canada such as Karen
Kain and Emily Stowe. Up, up and away !
Chris Hoytema is our Special Me.
Grade 3, Room 9
This week we learned to multiply! We
=looked -for patterns and tried to predict.
(We did very well) . Some of us have been
working on a snow mural. It looks
gorgeous. Tomorrow is our last Snow Unit
Day. We had lots of snowy ideas but no
snow. Oh well, our animal unit should be
better.
Grade 4, Room P3
Last week we had "Pay Day". Thanks to
1V1rs. Park, as well as the Grade 8
vol eers, (Tricia Brown, Danny Kerr,
Kerr, Scott Rintoul) for helping us
balance our bank books. We have been
researching the Inuit and are now prepar-
ing class presentations. Mr. Farnell came
in to show us bow to make 6 -sided
snowflakes. Caroline Bleeker's cousin, In=
sa, from Germany, is visiting our class
once a week to practise her English.
Grade 4/5, Room P2
The P2 recyclers had Mike Williscraft, a
reporter from the Goderich Signal Star
visit our classroom recently. We were hap-
py to see the results in the paper telling
about the good job we're doing.
We are averaging over 7 kg. of
recyclable pop tins each week. Send your
crushed pop tins to portable 2.
Room 6 Readers
Room 6 is preparing for Public Speaking
which starts soon. Nathan Durnin is going
to talk about his favorite subject, Rats.
Luke Sproul will tell us about hockey.
"Girls, Girls, Girls" will be Chris Maize's
speech. Motorbikes will be Dennis Black's
topic and Matt Thcropson will speak on
T.V. commercials. We can hardly wait
hear Chris Curran speak about shops.
Grade 7/8, Room 8
Last week on Friday we went skiing and
had a very successful time. No one broke
anything. We switched in shop and home
ec, and now the grade 8's are in shop and
grade 7 in Home e:.. On Thursday our class
,,had a gymnastic test which involved us do-
ing balancing skills

Everyone had fun at Talisman. There
were no injuries. We had a test in Music
but we had poor results. There was a
make=up test see everyone hopes they do
better. We are researching for our science
fair projects now.
Library
The library has been a very busy place
lately. There have been many assignments
that had the students looking for informa-
tion in the library resources.
Many students are preparing their
speeches and science fair projects.
The people from Portable 3 put their
research papers about the Inuit on the
computers.

"Visions for Volunteers" a leadership
development workshop, held recently in
Toronto, provided both practical applica-
tion and inspiration to the 30„ selected
leaders from Women's Institute Branches
throughout the province of Ontario.
Some of the objectives of Federated
Women's Institutes of Ontario are to
discover, stimulate anddevelop leader-
ship and also to help identify and resolve
needs in the community. Among the needs
discovered by Federated Women's In-
stitutes of Ontario was that its members
wanted workshops on a variety of subjects
but were uneasy about putting on
workshops themselves. After the Visions
for Volunteers workshop itnow means that
30 women are :able to put on workshops for
their :local communities.
Included in the topics covered were,
resources, ;publicity and promotion,
displays and layouts, looking after your
volunteer helpers and also the prac-
ticalities of organizing a workshop. The
delegates .also .got a chance to .share how
their own Women's Institute Branches are
progressing on the current theme of
Waste -Management -Recycling.
Women's Institutes - an organization
