A grateful thank you is extended to
Father Tim Uniac from the parishioners of
St. Joseph's. Father Tim very ably filled in
for Father Ed who was enjoying a much
deserved holiday in the sunny south.
Father Ed returned Feb. 7 and we are
delighted to welcome him home.
Wednesday, February 8, Ash Wednes-
day, marks the beginning of the Lenten
season. Lent is a time of prayer and
penance as we prepare for that most
glorious and joyful of events in the Chris-
tian calendar, Easter. The six weeks of
Lent give us an opportunity to reflect on
our purpose for existance and to prepare
ourselves to be worthy of the great
sacrifice made by our Savior on our
behalf.
The Ash Wednesday celebrations began
with,a School Mass at 2:30 pm followed in
the evening with Stations of the Cross,
recitation of the Rosary and the sacrifice
of the Mass. Ashes were placed in a sign of

the Cross on the foreheads of the faithful
present to recall to them that they are
mortal beings created by the goodness and
greatness of God.

The Grade 7/8 class once again held
their very successful annual Pancake
Breakfast following the 10:30 Mass on Sun-
day, February 5th in St. Joseph's Parish
Hall. This event, catered to by the children
and their parents, is a major fund raiser
for trips by the 7/8 class. This year the
class is looking forward to a trip of several
days duration to Niagara Falls and region.
Friday, February 3 was the last oppor-
tunity for skating at the Goderich arena
for the students of St. Joseph's. This por-
tion of their Physical Education program
is much looked forward to and enjoyed.
Grade 4-8 students are now in the midst
of public speaking. Those chosen from
each of the classes ,will go on to competi-
tion in the gym. From there the winners
advance to zone finals. Good luck to all
participants and congratulations to all for
the time and effort devoted to this wor-

Brucelea Haven happenings
The month of January brought old and
new activities to Brucele Haven. Some
Brucelea Haven residents were seen digg-
ing into a plate of hot-dogs and deep fried
french fries; other were seen tapping their
toes during a musical performance put on
by Jerry and Mel 1,'heff1er. Approximately
50 residents were a little over budget at our
first auction sale. Charlie Schaeffer auc-
tioned off everything from delicious
es . bottles of ,.huts to, non-
alcoholic wine! Our birthday party for the
month of January was sponsored by the St.
Paul's UCW. They provided an entertain-
ing afternoon with young people sharing
their musical talents. The birthday cake
melted in our mouths and topped off a
wonderful afternoon.
The Brucela Haven.Auxiliary held their
first meeting of the new year. Discussions
took place regarding their voluntary role
of running of the tuckshop, what activities
they were looking into for the upcoming
months at Brucelea Haven and they had
their election for 1989 officers. It was
reported that their monthly euchre par-
ties, which are held in the library meeting
room, have been a great success. The date
for the next card party was set for Monday
Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $2.00 and
there is a door draw and a light lunch is
provided: -
