Father Tim very ably filled in for Father Ed who was enjoying a much deserved holiday in the sunny south. Father Ed returned Feb. 7 and we are delighted to welcome him home. Wednesday, February 8, Ash Wednes- day, marks the beginning of the Lenten season. Lent is a time of prayer and penance as we prepare for that most glorious and joyful of events in the Chris- tian calendar, Easter. The six weeks of Lent give us an opportunity to reflect on our purpose for existance and to prepare ourselves to be worthy of the great sacrifice made by our Savior on our behalf. The Ash Wednesday celebrations began with,a School Mass at 2:30 pm followed in the evening with Stations of the Cross, recitation of the Rosary and the sacrifice of the Mass. Ashes were placed in a sign of KINGSBRIDGE PARISHISCHOOb ,aEAn the Cross on the foreheads of the faithful present to recall to them that they are mortal beings created by the goodness and greatness of God. Goderich and District Pro -Life allected memberships for the past two weekends at the entrance of the church. As this is a non- profit organization it is primarily through memberships that funds are raised to help carry on their most necessary and wor- thwhile work. If you have been in adver- tantly overlooked or would like to become a member for the first time please call Teresa Courtney at 529-7189 or Clarice Dalton at 529-7530. The last Wednesday of January, C.W.L. members once again visited with folks at Maitland Manor in Goderich. The Grade 7/8 class once again held their very successful annual Pancake Breakfast following the 10:30 Mass on Sun- day, February 5th in St. Joseph's Parish Hall. This event, catered to by the children and their parents, is a major fund raiser for trips by the 7/8 class. This year the class is looking forward to a trip of several days duration to Niagara Falls and region. Friday, February 3 was the last oppor- tunity for skating at the Goderich arena for the students of St. Joseph's. This por- tion of their Physical Education program is much looked forward to and enjoyed. Grade 4-8 students are now in the midst of public speaking. Those chosen from each of the classes ,will go on to competi- tion in the gym. From there the winners advance to zone finals.
