Grade 1
We have been such good readers in
Grade One that all -of us havestarted new
readers this month. We are all reading in.
different books and are becoming good
sounders. On the .computer, we are using a
program called ACCEL •'READ. It trains
our eyes to read faster and more accurate-
ly as we watch for letter patterns. Jaime
P. made the January birthday cake, and
Lindsey was "Special Me".
Grade 2/3
We were space designers this week. A
space station, space rocket, space mural
and space lunar modules were created.
Thanks to Mrs. Cranston and Mrs. Mali
for helping out at -.our centres. Special
houseleague points were given to Becky,
Ainsley, Jamie, Amy for being Superstars.
Everyone has received their Mercer
Mayer Reader's Badge. Congratulations
on such fine reading Grade Two! Grade
2/3 also have enjoyed working with a part-
ner to find all the important facts about
Bruce County Wild Animals. They 'made
very interesting charts, stories and pic-
tures to share with their class •
Mrs. Ritchie typed the stories out so we
could make our very .own booklets.
We would like to welcome Jackie
Freeman to our class at Lucknow Central.
Grade 3/4
It was a quiet week in grade 4. We are all
busily perfecting our speeches. In health
we conducted experiments to see which
different nutrients were in a variety of
foods. Big Bruce County is our new topic
for Environmental Studies. We had no idea
that we were surrounded by so much
water! We would like to welcome Chad
Freeman to our class
Grade 4's just finished their multiplica-
tion, and are now working on division.
Grade 3's have finished their measuring
units and have started decimals and frac-
tions. The class has enjoyed working on
the Icons doing a math race with the com-
puters in addition, subtraction; and
multiplication. In health class the grade
3/4's had their heart rates taken. They now
know how to take their pulse on their neck.
Grade 5
Speeches are well underway in grade 5.
We discovered that about half of us enjoy
.doing -speeches 'while_taIf of .us .don't. We
are working .on a number of projects and
have learned to budget our time well. Cur-
rently, we are trying to incorporate a
variety of resources into our research.
This stops us from relying too heavily on
, any single resource. '
Grade'6 •
In Industrial Arts we had to finish a
bowl, book stand, sugar scoop, letter

studies we had to finish an apron and we
made some pizza. All the students started
a second novel this week. The titles are
The Scatterbrain Booky, Bunnicula, A
Nose for Trouble, On the Banks of Plum
Creek, Desert Dog, and The Borrowers.

This week we had science, health, and
geography tests. We still have a couple up-
coming tests during the next week. We
have just completedyjur last history
assignment about Canada's natives. The
senior volleyball teams have done well in
representing our school. They recently
went to Ripley and Kincardine for a tour-
nament. Everyone has been busy com-
pleting their speeches as well.
Grade 8
In 500 B.C., Pythagoras noticed that
there is a relationship between the sum of
the square of the legs of a right triangle
and the square of the hypotenuse. Please
ask any of our Grade 8 students to explain
this interesting mathematical theory to
you, they will be more than pleased to
share their new discovery and knowledge
with you.
