Atom B's im proving rapidly
The Lucknow Atom B's are showing
marked improvement in their play of late.
Two impive games against Hanover
and Port Elgin derated that fact.
OnSiuhday, January 15, the teani travell-
ed to Hanover and held a strong Hanover
team to a hard fought score of 4-1 against
iuelmow. The boys tied the first and se-
cond periods and dominated the action
especially in the second. Ed aturtney
scored for Lucknow assisted by Ben
Brophy 'th 1:46 left in the first period.
Tins ti. the game at 1-1. The second
period an exciting series of end to end
rushes culminating in spectacular goal
mouth clashes at both ends of the rink.
The strength of the Hanover team finally
prevailed in the third period when they
pulled away to a 4-1 lead. The boys never
gave up and acquitted themselves with
great energy to the very last second.
The confidence gained in this Hanover
game spilled over in the January 21st tus-
sle with Port Elgin when Ludonow's scor-
ing potential was unleashed. Lucknow
scored five times to keep dose to Port
Elgin throughout the match. The final
score of 7-5 for Port Elgin was well earned
because of the do-or-die scrappiness of the
Lucknow squad.
SPORTS
Leading the way for Lucknow were Luke
Sproule and Mike Priddy with two gels
each. Luke was assisted by Tevor Moffat
en both occasions. Earning assists on Mike
Paddy's two goals were Mark Kerr and
Andrew Cleland. Joe Brophy closed out the
scoring with 3:32 left in the third period.
He was awl by entreman Ed Court-
ney.
ourtney. This final goal saw Lucknow come
within one goal of the opposition and mark-
ed
arked a comeback from a 5-1 deficit midway
through the second period. The final goal
came with A4 seconds left when Port Elgin
sprang a player free as Lucknow pressed
for the tying goaL
In both matches the Lucknow goal ten-
ding duo of Curt Humphrey and Graham
Hunter have excelled.
Kent Altwi, Mike Courtney and Murray
Moffat have done a superb job of molding
this collection of boys into a happy and
energetic team.
Midgets have helpers
The Lueiiow Legion -Midgets travelreu
to Walkerton for an exhibition game
against the house league team.
As only_ seven midgets were available,
assistance was given by Russel Sutton,
Justin Murray and Rob Crich of the
Lucknow Bantams on offence, and Jim
Weiler of Walkerton in the Lucknow goal.
Although Lueknow could not generate
much offence, having only eight shots in
the fast two periods, JustinMurray click-
ed
licked twice from the slot after being set upon
effective passes from Charles (Chopper)
Murray and Rod Crich, with assistance
from Matt Rhody. During this time, the
defensive players Kent Campbell, Gavin
Hunter, Steve Rintoul and Chopper Mur-
ray were able to protect the guest goalie
and hold Walkerton to two goals.
The third period opened with the score
tied at two. and L elmow missing
Camp -
hell on an injury and Bhody -who-Iv-as-
moved from the game on his third minor
penalty. Lucy showed great hustle in
the corner and two mnregaals were set up
in front with excellent passes from behind.
Justin Murray got his hat trick when set
up by Rob Crich and Rob got his own when
set up by Sutton.
Walkerton got within one with a minute
to go to put the pressure on but Rod Crich
put the game away with a sweep around
the net assisted by hard digging Mike
Arming
Earlier in the week, the boys lost a tough
dose game against Drayton. They were
again playing with only eight skaters going
against three full lines. These boys sure
have legs „and atauii na!
The Midgets will soon be starting the
best three of five playoffs with Paisley.
