Few drawmoreinedia and public
attention than contamination and the pro-
tection Of our water supply. !How:many of
us would feel comfortable in .thinking a
glass of water knowing ittested safe and
only contained a 'fewparts per billion of a
contaminant? Very few.
Our tolerance to water pollution from
any some, inebebee that of apiculture,
is very low,. Agriculture has shouldered its
share of the responsibility in protecting
our water supply. The land stewardship
program is a good perample of a co-
operative effort between government and
farm organizations in encouraging SOH
conservation practices to reduce soil
erosion. •
Another more recent co-operative effort
is the Ontario Grower Pesticide Safety
Courses being offered throughout the pro-
vinee this winter. These courses are a
result of the initiative of a number of farm
organizations working with the Ontario
Government to develop an education pro-
gram for pesticide users. These courses
are a Positive step forward and offer
benefits to the farmer and the public. The
farmer will gain a better understanding of
the laws affecting pesticide use, safe
handling and use, and calibration of spray
equipment. The public can rest assured

with the first courses beginning in

Thereare many aspects to pesticide use.
One of these is that we use and
demonstrate that we use pesticides in a
way they were intended to be used.

ing of partial dentures has unfortunately
led to many having been penalized by the
Governing Board of Denture Therapists on
previous occasions. I would estimate that
85% of all practising Denture Therapists in
,Ontario make Partial Dentures -direct to
the public without a Dentist's supervision.
Some of the Denture Therapists (Den-
turists) have acquired their skills and
competence through half of their adult life
to practicing The consumer will benefit
because cmnpetilion will not only bring
down the price but improve the quality of
partial dentures. Next time you see your
Dentist ask him haw many dentures he
was asked to fabricate in school toqualify
him as a Denture supplier, or as a Partial
Denture supplier?
I believe that the Public will be best
served by the IMMEDIATE introduction
of legislation which, while not forbidding
Dentists to provide partial dentures, but
wiulpermit Denturists to offer competitive
service. This will allow both parties to
operate intheir own fields andthe public to
choose on the basis of the evidence put
before them. 1 believe that the Govern-
ment should regulate the training
qualifications and Remising of Denturists
to ensure that proper standards are
maintained.
If you advocate that Denturists (Denture
Therapist) should hay a legal right to
fellow 'their profession and make Partial
Dentures and agree that the toothless
public should have Freedom of Choice, by
the Dentist of Denturist, for partial den

(Denture Therapists).
I urge you to contact the Minister of
Health, and voice your opinion in this
regard. Also send a copy of your letter to
your local member of the Ontario
Legislature.
If the law is changed as suggested, the
consumer, if he wishes, can take advan-
tage of the lower fees from the Denture
Therapist, -with faster service and with
better qualityfittiqg of Partial Dentures.
