Local Book Fair was another smash success
by Jennifer Cranston and
Tara Thacker
Grade 1
What a busy week' "Mouse Tales" pro-
duction on Wednesday was excellent' Our
Christmas concert on Thursday was a
great success.
Grade One had a super time at their
mouse party, on Fri., with Kindergarten,
Grade 2 and Grade 2/3. We played games
and nibbled on Mouse snacks such as
raisins, cheese, carrot sticks and
crackers. A mean old cat even visited us'
Then we went to Pinecrest Manor to
entertain the residents with our
Christmas plays!
Grade 2
We had our final visit from our friend
Nao. He prepared a Japanese dish for us.
It was called Curried Rice. Most of us
found this dish most delicious. We cer-
tainly enjoyed having Nao in our
classroom over the past few weeks.
Mice are nice was a slogan in the
school this week. The Mouse Tales
presentation was excellent. So was the
grade one "Mouse Party". We didn't
know mice were so much fun.
Grade 2/3
Mr. Pike has chosen us to be the "Class
of the Month". We are very proud of
ourselves.
We have had a very busy time taking
part in the Christmas Concert on Tues-
day and Thursday at the school. Then on
Fridaywe went to entertain thesenior
citizens at Pinecrest with our Christmas
program.
On Wednesday the neighbouring
schools came to join us in enjoying
"Mouse Tales". Everyone thought the
performance was "fantastic". "Mice are
rather nice." On Friday Grade One plan-
ned a "Mouse Party" and invited us. We
had a' great time being mice, playing
mouse games, and eating mouse snacks.
Thank you Grade One and Mrs. Bell!
Grades 3/4
Christmas continues to play an impor-
tant role in the Grade 3 and 4 class.
Christmas research and reading units are
almost completed.
In art class, old-fashioned Christmas
balls were made. Thread was soaked in
starch and wrapped around a balloon.
The balloon was broken leaving a
`CPS INSIDER
spherical shape. We are looking forward
to taking our creations home.
Grade 3 students are learning how to
borrow when subtracting while the Grade
4 class is just about finished with their
multiplication tables.
Grade 4
It has been yet another exciting week
in Grade four. We finished our unit on
Map and Globe skills. Most of us think we.
could travel anywhere if we had a good
map!
We were all very nervous about presen-
ting our Christmas play, The Reindeer's
Dilemma, but it went off without a hitch.
Thank you very much to Mrs. Mali and
Miss Matte who helped us out with our
costumes. Grade 5
This week Mike Johnston and Doug
Johnston received their package from the
NHL. They were quite pleased with the
contents'
We did a "Christmas. Survey" of sorts
to determine the favorite store and shop-
ping center of the class! The results
showed that the favorite stores were;
first Zellers; second TOYS R US; third
Joy Sports and fourth Eatons. Our
favorite malls ranged from The Trappers
Museum m Northern Ontario all the way
south to the mall in Kissimmee; Florida.
We have set up a display of our Lego
creations and they really look great.
Special thanks are in order for Vanessa
Breckles who has really helped out.
Grade 6
We are studying "Phases and Eclipses
of the Moon." We are making. a calendar
for December with the moons on it for
each night.
Every one got a round ornament with a
tinsel hook to put on a Christmas tree. On
a tag on the ornament we wrote what we
wanted for Christmas.
It was a fun week in Grade 6.
Grade 7
This has been a busy week for the
Grade 7 class.
Most .of us have been practising for the
Christmas Concert, either as members of
the senior choir or the band.
During class our time has been filled
with writing a math test, composing our
entries for the Sentinel's Christmas Edi-
tion and working on various Christmas
related activities during Language Art
classes.
Grade 8
The Grade"8 students presented a play
titled "The True Meaning of Christmas"
at our Christmas Concert. The 4 act play
was written, staged and acted out by
class members. All worked hard to make
this project a success. •
Should children be alowed to vote? We
discussed this interesting topic this week.
The class was split when asked to make a
decision. Many students showed quite a
bit of wisdom regarding his topic and
made mature arguments for and against
this topical issue.
Libary News
The Book Fair was a smashing suc•
-
cess. Over $1,200.00 of books were sold
for personal reading or Christmas ;sifts.
This is proof that Lucknow public 1 eves to
read. The money raised pays for author
Martyn Godfrey visit plus some new
books.
Thanks for your support!

Kindergarten
This week we have been practising hard
for our Christmas Concert. Our room is
decorated for Christmas. We've made
Christmas bells, wreaths and reindeer.
Grade 2
They have been making Ptranadons
hangers, big books and reading them. Mrs.
Graham, Mrs. Blanchette and Ms.
Gauthier helped them paper mache the
dinosaurs. They also made their own
poems.
Wonder Tree
The Room 4 Wonder Tree is having a
taste of the season this week, working on
Christmas centres. As we do language,
math, story writing and poetry activities,
we practice making decisions and
organization.
We're also busy with highly secret craft
activities! Laura Gilbert is our "Special
Me".
Room 6
We are doing maps of what we think
Santa's Village looks like up at the North
Pole. We are also planning to make a
model of the village on top of the shelves in
Room 6.
We are making warehouses, workshops,
an airport and a castle for Santa's home.
We hope to do some Christmas baking
before the holidays too.
B ROOKSIDE BROADCAST
Grade 5
As part of their government unit Paul
Black and Lee Cairncross visited Portable
1 to talk to the Grade fives about Township
Council.
Ton McQuail came to explain the work-
ings of the Board of Education and what is
involved in running for an election.
Grade 6
Christmas is coming faster than ex-
pected even without snow. We have been
busy making colourful snowflakes to
decorate our room. We are also working
very hard on the Christmas Concert.
We hope it will be a success. We would
like to say happy birthday to Mike Bakker
On December 9 and also a belated birthday
to Douglas Mclean, whose birthday was on
December 2.
Grade 7
This week in Miss Rennie's class we
talked about alcohol. In Mr. Liddle's room
we are presenting our projects on
Scientists.
Grade 7/8
This week we are busy working on
graphs, such as bar graphs, line graphs
and tallies. On Thursday, December 8 we
finished the backdrop for our concert
which was on Dec. 13th.
