Ripley Library News A Christmas craft workshop at the library on Wednesday, Dec. 21 from 3-5 p.m. for ages 8 and up. Please pre -register at the Library, Saturday, December 17 is the last day for Christmas films from 1:30 to 2:30. Book sale during library hours from now until end of December. Proceeds to go towards a PAC computer for the library. Hours are Tuesday 2-5, 7-9, Wednesday 2-5, Friday 1-5, Saturday 10 a.m. - 12 noon. Last euchre till 1989 The Ripley Happy Hearts club held their last Euchre till after Christmas on Dec.5. The prize winners were ladies Mary Brooks, Olive Schacht, men, Duncan Thornburn and Marion Gamble. The Euchre committee W.M.S. of South Kin The South Kinloss W.M.s. met for its an- nula Christmas meeting on December 6 at the church with hostess Mrs. Allan Mac- Dougall. Mrs. MacDougall, along with directors Mrs. Jack Forrester and Mrs. Evan Keith, served the ladies lunch. The meeting opened with a Christmas welcome from the president, Mrs. Leonard Clarke. The minutes of the November meeting were presented and approved and correspondence was dealt with. The treasurer's report and Ladies' Aid were also heard. Roll call, a small gift for a shut-in, showned 19 members present. Various business matter were discussed. To note, coffee time begins on the second Sunday of January with three volunteers at assist each week. Nursery duty is also in need of volunteers. The potluck luncheon and Christmas Concert is December 18 at 12:30 with a candelight service being held December 24 at 7:30. The directors gave a beautifully por- trayed meditation on the Advent story and the Jesse tree. Mrs. Murray Keith graced the group twice during the meeting with lovely solos accompanied by Mrs. Jack Forrester on piano. All officiers handed in their annual reports and these were adopted as read. Mrs. Evan Keith, president of Maitland in- stalled the 1989 list of officers: secretary, Mrs. Lloyd MacDougall; press, Mrs. Wm. Dickie; Sunshine and Service, Mrs. Harold Howald. Mrs. Leonard Clarke presented Mrs. Eavn Keith with a corsage for her dedicated service throughout the year before the offering was collected. The next meeting of the South Kinloss W.M.S. will be held January 10 at 2:00 at Mrs. Hamilton's at the Sepoy Apartments. Please bring used stamps and calendars for collection. Courtesy remarks were heard from Mrs. Evan Keith, responded to by Mrs. Allan MacDougall. Mrs. Vera Schmidt acted as pianist for the meeting and presented a number of lovely Christmas hymns before Mrs. Allan MacDougall closed with prayer. Recovering from accident injuries Margaret Moorhouse of Carstairs, Alber- ta, is recovering after receiving multiple in- juries in a head on crash at Airdrie. Marg spent eight days in hospital in Calgary but is now at home. Pearl (Mrs. Allister MacKay) is spending some time out with them. Friends here wish her a speedy recovery. Relatives attend London funeral Aubrey Langdon, husband of Marie s Pollock (formerly of Con. 12 Huron Twp.) passed away Nov. 27 in his 76th years. He is survived by his wife Marie, four daughters; Mary Gayle and her husband Mitch Czaja, their three children, Clinton, Aaron and Ainslee of London, Lana and her husband Walter Wylie, their children, Kim and Whit- tacer, of S. Carolina, Cleo and her husband Don Colquon and their sons, Kent and Devon of Clinton, Joy and her husband Paul Lavis and their children, McKenna and Layne of Holmesville. His funeral service was Nov. 29 at the Millard George Funeral Home, London: Attending from a distance were Carmon Pollock of Ottawa, Howard and Fran Pollock of Downsview, Doug Pollock of Kitchener, Jean Pollock, Bill and Joan Ritchie, Marj Reid and Winnifred Howe of Kincardine, Frances Elliott, Elmer and Joyce Courtney of Ripley. Playschool prepares for Christmas Ripley Playsthool has finished its first term. Congratulations, the winner of the quilt was Judy Thompson! Thank you to all who bought tickets and contributed in any way. Special thanks to ,Linda Emmerton who displayed the quilt at her store. Santa Claus visited on Dec. 1 and everyone was pleased to see him especially as he has such a tight schedule this close to Christmas. On Dec. 5 several of the children went to Princess Court and entertained the residents with some Christmas music. Thank you to Barb Gamble who invited them.
