Grants totalling $230,000 under the On-
tario Home Renewal Program (OHRP) to
various municipalities in Huron County
have been announced by Jack Riddell,
Minister of Agriculture and Food and MPP
for Huron, on behalf of Chaviva Hosek,
Minister of Housing.
Some of the municipalities receiving a
total of $468,000 in provincial OHRP fun-
ding include; Morris Township $40,000;
West Wawanosh Township $40,000; Howick
Township $40,000; Turnberry Township
$40,000; Town of Clinton $30,000; and Town
of Seaforth $40,000.
Administered by municipalities, the pro-
gram assists homeowners in upgrading
their homes, with the emphasis on correc-
ting faulty structural and sanitary condi-
tions, as well as improving plumbing, in-
sulation, heating and electrical systems.
Loans of up to $7,500 are made available
to eligible Owner -occupants who wish to br-
ing their homes up to standar i a. 3ortiton
of a loan may be forgiven, depending on
the recipient's income. Interest rates
range from zero to ten per cent, again
depending on income. For applicants, the
maximum annual .1...ilifying income, after
allowable decutions are made is S21,000.
OHRP beneftis are available to owner -
occupants in all municipalities wt' ^h have
adopted minimum housing sta! ...arils by-
laws or resolutions estahlishing standards,
and have decided to take part in the pro-
gram_ In-ommimities without municipal
boundar: ()HRP is administered by the
Ministry of Housing in conjunction with
the Ministry of Northern Development.
More than 40,000 Ontario homeowners
have benefited from OHRP since the pro-
gram was announced in 1974.
OHRP is one of the Ministry of Housing's
initiative to help conserve housing in
Ontario.
Quitters plan banner
The Five Star Quitters Guild met at
Teeswater on November 23. The roll call,
show a completed Dresden Plate quilt
block, was answered by 37 ladies.
Sharon Stein conducted a short business
meeting which included the reading of the
minutes by secretary Betty Fieten. Betty,
along with Sharon Stein ano Ona Ireland,'
reported on the Quilt Craft Show sponsored
by the Bluewater Quitters Guild at Owen
Sound
A Teeswater banner and logo for the
group was discussed with three. members
now in charge of its planning. Area cap-
tains named Doris Bushell, Wingham;
Betty Fieten, Teeswater and Muriel Mof-
fat for Lucknow.

Muriel MacKenzie, Pricilla Ramsay and
Marion McKinnon made patterns for Ec-
centric
o-centric Star, a four patch quilt block, with
templates and material to be cut at the
next meeting. A six-inch block quilt in fall
clours was put in frames and tied without
knots.
A crib quilt was set up for quilting and
two ladies volunteered to bind the tied
quilt. The group also quilted Dresden Plate
quilt blocks in hoops for cushions before
adjourning.
The next meeting of the Five Star
Quitters Guild will be held in the Lucknow
Town Hall on January 25. Members are
asked to bring a sample of four patch quilt
blocks or patterns and material.
