Grade 3 Room 9
Last week Castle 9 wrapped up its
"Castles and Dragons" unit with a
Medieval Feast. The following day, the
class made castles and dragons (and a
gryphon) went home.
This week, castle 9 is learning ' about
Japan. Nao was a special visitor. From
him we learned that Japanese drive on the
other side of the Toad and they like white
cars the best.
Room 6 Readers
We've been learning some Japanese
words for our Japan Day this week. `bozo'
means `please' and arigato' means `thank
you'. We also did some origami or
paperfolding.
On Tues. we made pumpkin ice cream
but it wouldn't freeze solid when we put it
in the freezer. Some boys thought it tasted.
alright but others thought it was pretty
bad!
Grade 5
In P2 we are recycling pop cans. We are
going to do a play around the school. We
hope our play will tell people to recycle
things like pop cans, newspapers, and food
cans.
Grade 5-6
In Mr. Spittal's class we have been lear-
ning about Japan and their famous
buildings such as The Byoda, Yomei'mon
Pavillions and Nagoya castle.
We are doing a chart about the wind
direction and daily weather. On Friday,
Nov. 18th we will have hot dogs and
our Japan theme is all day long. On Tues -

November 26. Games begin at 8:30 a.m. at
G.D.C.I. All parents, students and friends
of our school are welcome to come and
support our athletes.
Japan Day
All of Brookside joined in for "Japan
Day" last Friday. Following a Japanese
film and song, students went to four of 23
different workshops throughout the day.
Topics included cooking, Japanese art
forms, geography, graphing (comparing
Canada and Japan), music, Japanese
caligraphy, and history.
Kimono -clad teachers were joined by
Nau, a visiting Japanese teacher, and by
volunteers from the community to lead
workshops: Marie Webster, Melba Park,
Linn Asnong, Judy Smyth, Marg Bakker,
Helen Rintoul, and Suzanne Robinson were
wonderful "Japanese elders"!
Our day closed with our shared
Japanese song, after a great day learning
about Japan, another part of our world.
Sayonara!
Wonder Tree
The Room 4 Wonder Tree is visiting the
Land of the Rising Sun this week, learning
about Japan. We tried to write top to bot-
tom and right to left - it's hard! We've also
learned some Japanese symbols. Now
we're searching our homes to see how
many things we can find that are "Made in
Japan". Nau, a teacher from Japan, came
to Brookside this week; we joined Room 9
to 'see slides of his home and school.
Rachel McQuail is our "Special me".
Family Study

for the Service of Holy Communion.
Crucifers were Mandy Peck and Kendra
Pewtress.
Bishop Robert Townshend introduced
Rev. and Mrs. David Laurence Atwell
presenting them with a Bible and cer-
tificate from the Diocese of Huron. They
both replied fittingly, after the recessional
hymn. At the close of the service the choir
sang "Bind us together, Lord, in love".
Prior to the ordination service the
Regional Dean conducted a short morning
service for those taking part in this special
ordination and following the service a
reception and luncheon was held in the
parish hall.
On Sunday following the evening service
at the Pentecostal Church a reception and
luncheon was held in the Sunday school
Thank You!
I would like to thank the citizens of
Lucknow for their support and en-
couragement before and after the
election. With six very capable can-
didates it was not an easy decision
at the polls.
The council and reeve are only five
people and cannot manage a village
without the help of many other
dedicated citizens and organizations.
A successful village must be a com-
munity effort.
Thank you,
Joan Pollard.

The tables were most attractive with red
lighted candles and centred with a rose.
After all had enjoyed the delicous food top-
ped off with a wedding cake which the hap-
py couple cut, a presention from the con-
gregation was made by Pastor Marvin
Christensen of a gift of a card containing
money and a set of table mats.
Both replied fittingly and an enjoyable
evening was brought to a close. Our best
wishes go to Reg and Thelma.
