Lancers win one, lose one
The Lucknow Intermediate Lancers,
coming off a tremendous season last year,
opened their season of hockey play Friday
night when they travelled to Durham.
Somewhat slow at starting, the Lancers
fell behind early in the game and lost their
season opener 6 - 2.
Durham quickly built a 4 - 1 lead in the
game and the Lancers, while holding their
own in the final two periods, couldn't over-
come the deficit. Steve MacPherson and
Don Elliott netted the Lucknow markers.
In their homeopener, played here on
Sunday, the Lancers hosted the Teeswater
Falcons and skated to a 7 - 4 victory. The
Lancers built a 3 - 1 lead after the first
period of play on goals by powerhouse
Steve MacPherson, Steve Alton and Don
Elliott.
The Lancers continued their strong play
into the second frame increasing their lead
S PORTS
to 7 -1. The mesh was bulged m the second
by Pat Murray, Kirk Livingston and two
from the stick of Steve Simpson.
Nuring their lead, Lucknow allowed
Teeswater three goals in the final period
before Lancer Ron Stanley rounded out the
scoring with one of his own.
The Lancers look strong this year and
under the direction of new head coach Ron
Stanley, local fans can expect big things
from the team in the future.
The Lancers travel to Ripley Friday
night and move on to Owen Sound for a
game Sunday.
Exciting season ahead
On November 11, 1988 the Lucknow
Atom A team travelled to Clifford to play
their first game of the 1988/89 hockey
season.
The scoring started within minutes of
the puck being dropped. Clifford scored
two quick goals against the Lucknow
team. One more goal whizzed past
Lucknow goalie, Jamie Snow before the
first period ended.
The second period saw a further three
goals scored against the Lucknow team
before Lucknow finally managed to get on
the scoreboard. Dave Adams received
goal credit while Colin Becker and Eric
Andrew assisted.
In the third period Clifford put two more
behind the Lucknow goalie but Jeff
Porter's hard work earned him honours of
the final goal of the game with Eric An-
drew assisting.
Lucknow did well against such a strong
opposing team. All parents and spectators
look forward to an exciting season.
