Grads '88 honoured
Annual commencement exercises were
held last Friday evening at the F.E. Madill
Secondary School in Wingham. A total of
$14,765 in prizes, bursaries and scholar-
ships was awarded.
Darryl Button, who earned a 92.3 per
cent general proficiency average in Grade
13, was valedictorian. The son of Mr. and
Mrs. Doug Button of Teeswater, he also
won the Grade 13 proficiency award for
mathematics; the Alexander McKenzie
Endowment Fund Award; the Governor
General Medal; the Linda Mahood
Memorial Award; the ABCD Award; the
Rots G. Hill Scholarship, as well as being
an Ontario Scholar.
Other Ontario Scholars (those who earn-
ed 80 per cent or more in Grade 13) in-
clude: Leanne Armstrong, Sherri Bourne,
Darryl Button, Bill Cameron, Cathy
Hamilton, Tony Gingrich, Kristen
Hawkins, Ruth Higgins, Erika Hooftman,
Donna Johnston, Paulette Lippert, Kerry
Pletch, Amy Pollard, Bryan Reave, San-
dra Schwartzentruber, Christine Simpson,
Charlene Stephenson and Andy Versteeg.
Other scholarship acknowledgements in-

ceremony in Wingham recently. Among those called to the stage during the evening
were these Ontario Scholars from Lucknow. From left are Tony Gingrich, Christine
Simpson, Amy Pollard and Brian Reavie. Congratulations folks, the village is proud
of you.

who are now residing in their new home at
1040 Huron Terrace, Kincardine.
The Purple Grove 4-11 club, the "Meat
Munchers", leaders, moms, and friends en-
joyed dinner out last Wednesday at the
Golden Pheasant Restaurant in Wingham.
An option for meeting six was a visit to a
restaurant with an international cuisine.
The menu was a traditional Greek dinner -
Greek salad, moussaka (main course), and
Baklava for dessert. The hostess graciously
explained each dish as it was served.
Joan and Wayne Hartwick, Chris and Dar-
ren, Kincardine, visited with Morley and
Deanna Scott on Saturday. On Sunday, the
Scotts had supper with Betty and Art Helm
and family, Tiverton.
Marion Emerson spent a couple of days at
the Royal Winter Fair last week.
The annual meeting for Purple Grove

Community Centre will be held Saturday,
Nov. 26, 8 pm.
Sympathy is extended to. Mrs. Wellington
Campbell on the passing of her brother, Roy
Morgan. The Morgan's were former
residents of Purple Grove on the 10th Conc.
The Bible Study group met at June
Elliott's this week.
Dick McCash visited last weekend in Pic -
ton with Olive, Hector and George Knight.
Visitors this past week with Don and Anne
McCash were Diane Jones, Teresa Farrell,
Carol Jones, Nina and Jamie, Carol's
father, Jack Ellis, United Kingdom, and
Sonny Roy.
