(Pat Livingston photo) Jim Reed speaks at Legion Branch 309, Lucknow, of the Royal Cana- dian Legion held their annual Remem- brance Day banquet November 5. Three life memberships were presented; Eldon Mann, Dave Moffat and Joe King. Anna Johnstone and Joan Robinson were presented with 40 year service pins as members of the Auxiliary to Branch 309. Kelso McNay, the only surviving 1st World War veteran of Branch 309, was unable to attend. Comrades and guests were delighted to have three 1st World War widows in atten- dance. Jean Hughes, Grace Campbell and The community would like to send its sympathy to the family of the late William Finlayson, who passed away very sudden- ly at his home in Teeswater on Saturday, October 29th at the early age of 41 years. Mr. Finlayson is survived by his wife Judy, one son John and one daughter Jen- nie, his mother Dorothy Finlayson, five brothers and three sisters. Mr. Finlayson was the son of the late Mr. Gordon Finlayson. Visiting on Sunday with Charlie, Mayme and Ken Wilkins was Barbara Wilkins, her friends Kirk and Rowena from Paris Stella and Lloyd Irwin of Kinloss township, Elizabeth Wilkins of Mount Forest, David Dadson of Amberley and Bill and Joanne Wilkins of Guelph. George, Andrea, Julie and Micheal Mac- Donald of Kincardine visited on Sunday with Finlay and Margie MacDonald and Elmer and Edna Culbert. Kae, Jim and Cecil Webster spent the weekend in Richfield, Ohio with Atlee, Jean and Tricia Wise. The weather in Ohio was cold and windy the same as it was here. On Wednesday, Rhetta MacLennan visited at Point Clark with Mr. and Mrs. Sandy MacCharles. Mr. and Mrs. Art Mathewman have Jessie Johnston, who were aptly renamed "The Three Sweethearts of Branch 309". Jim Reed of W5, a part time resident of Dungannon, was guest speaker for the evening. He related some personal ex- periences, one that took place in Lebanon in 1977 while he was on assignment and the other regarding the takeover of the American embassy in Tehran. Mr. Reed's address to the gathering was very thought provoking, particularly at this time of the year. It is understandable why Mr. Reed is such a highly respected journalist. Remembrance Day service will be held at the Lucknow United Church, 10 a.m. with Cenotpah service at 11 a.m. OCHALSH by Kae Webster moved from the community down to the lake. Their son Doug Mathewman of Whistler, British Columbia was home with them for a week when they were in the pro- cess of moving.
