Hinting season opens
With last year's mild winter the Ministry
of Natural Resources is expecting another
record deer harvest in Wildlife Manage-
ment Unit 85. Almost 350 deer were taken
in 1987 by about 1200 hunters. It is an-
ticipated that 1500 hunters will participate
in the Nov. 7-10 season in 1988.
Hunters, are reminded that check sta-
tions for the controlled hunt will be
operated by the Ministry at different times

Kindergarten
This week we were working on lots of
Hallowe'en activities. We made cats,
ghosts and our own Hallowe'en word book.
We worked on a big book "Wise Owl, Wise
Owl Sitting In A Tree" and then read it to
some classes. We will be sharing our big
book with our families.
We went to a Hallowe'en Party at the
nursing home on Friday to share our
costumes and enthusiasm.
Grade One
Grade One planted big seeds, middle-
sized seeds, and tiny seeds in soil. We
made a graph to guess which seeds would
sprout first. Result: chestnut seven, pum-
pkin three, corn two, wheat one, radish
one, lettuce five, carrots four.
Our seeds m wet paper are getting fatter
and will soon sprout. We took seeds from
our pumpkin to plant, and to roast, then we
made a jack -o -lantern for our party on Fri-
day. We are looking forward to scaring
everyone at Pinecrest Manor with our
Hallowe'en costumes. Keith Hayes is
"Special Me". He brought lots of pictures
of his family to share. We watched a
Hallowe'en Safety film and made Safety
rules to read to Kindergarten and Grade 2.
Grade 2
We are numbering each day we are at
school. The 100th day is a special one. We
can hardly wait until we arrive at number
100 on our chart.
This week we have been having fun at
our Hallowe'en centres. There have been
many haunting stories written.
Happy Birthday to Joe Ernest, Ronnie
Van Meeteran, Devan MacDonald, Jeff
Rumble and Ainsley Colwell who
celebrated their birthdays in October.
Grade g/3
We have enjoyed our Hallowe'en centres
and worked very hard at them. We wish to
thank Barb. Cranston for helping us bake
cookies on Friday. We were "Super"
cooks. We visited Pinecrest on Friday to
share our costumes with the Senior
Citizens. Thank -you for the invitations and
treats.
Grade Four
This week we had a special time with
Mr. Pike on the Icons because we were the
class of the month. Chris Gibbons is the
Star of the week. We had lots of fun at our
Hallowe'en party.
Grade 5
On Friday October 28, the grade five
class is going to the Bruce Nuclear Power
Plant. We are leaving around 9:30 and are
expected back at 3:00.
Jeremy Smith will be helping with our
floor hockey games. Next week we . be
starting multiplication.

day, Tu day, Wednesday, 4:00 pm -8:00

`CPS INSIDER
In our vote for the Prime Minister of
Canada, so far it looks like Ed Broadbent
is winning with twenty people in the class
voting for him. Next is Brian Mulroney
with five votes and last is poor old John
Turner coming in with one person voting
for him.
Grade Seven
The grade 7 class has been rushing
around doing last minute assignments and
getting new ones. The grade 7's had a
guest speaker in our room. She was Miss
Helen Thompson. She explained early life
in Lucknow. We are going to be finishing
up our monster unit next week.
Grade 8
We have become totally immersed in our
party until lately and we would like to
share a few of our efforts with you.
Airplanes
Gas feeds me,
My body is steel,
Into the sky I move motionless.
I am big and fast,
In hangers I rest,
I devour the people,
My body is bold.
People relax happily,
On the trip to Rio.

Black and bleak,
Sitting on the ledge.
Silently he sits,
Pausing peacefully,

Family Studies
The Family Studies ghosts and goblins
have been stirring up some witches brew
and Hallowe'en treats. Grade sevens have
made some creative and scary decorations
for the Nursing Home.
Grade 6 have cut out their aprons, they
will be sewing next week.
Industrial Arts
In Industrial Arts grade 6 has been work-
ing in crafts, metal, and wood groups. In
crafts they are making copper foil pic-
tures, in metal: letter holders, and sugar
scoops, in wood: book stands, bowls. They
just switched groups. The projects are
coming along very well, and each of us get
to have a chance being the foreman.
They played and played, and marched and marched for five hours in a concentrated ef-
fort to raise funds for new uniforms. Yes, The Lucknow School Concert Band will be even
better after all the practice they had last Tuesday evening. (Pat Livingston photo) .
