Drinker is last to know
As a daily drinker, I know what I am
talking about. I continued drinking even
though my family was concerned, but talk-
ing about my problem was a "no -no". I
knew I drank a lot, but so do lots of people
— in fact — I believed that most people
drank as much as I did.
I told myself that I couldn't be h
alcoholic and I had lots of reasons — i.e.
I'd never missed a day at work, I'd never
hit my wife, I'd never had a blackout, I'd
never been charged with impaired, etc.,
etc., and on and on. But, privately, I was
concerned about my drinking and I was
alarmed at my mood change when drink-
ing. Without telling anyone, Itried to cut
down my drinking ... it lasted a few days
and then I returned to normal. I drank to
celebrate, I drank to drown my miseries, I
drank when none of those occasions oc-
cured ... I eventually started promising
myself that starting tomorrow I'd quit ... I
didn't ... Then I prayed and finally pleaded
with God to stop my drinking. He didn't.
So I, became very bitter and eventually
hated myself so much, was so disgusted
with my drinking that I finally swallowed
my pride and asked for help. Boy, that's
tough! ! admitting I have a problem that I
can't handle ... asking for help. This was
against my principles but I had proven to
my self that I couldn't do it alone. Why I
waited so long baffles me.
I found lots of help from the only people
who really know what my condition is like
... recovering alcoholics. They are not a
downtrodden bunch of losers or brown bag-
gers, but.rather they are happy people, ge-
nuinely concerned about each others' well-

being. Their efforts are directed at achiev-
ing a contented sober life. They are enjoy-
ing their freedom from the prison of
alcohol. They come from every walk of life
freely admitting the power of alcohol and
its influence over their lives. No heavy in-
doctrination or oath is put on the
newcomer.
AU that individual has to show is a desire
to stop' drinking today, and one day at a
time.
Of course there are those who choose to
"fall off the wagon" and then have the
courage to return. Never have I heard
anyone admonish this individual. Just to-
day is what matters.
When I joined this group I was welcom-
ed. I told my family, my company, my
close friends, and I was congratulated by
each and every one. Not one negative com-
ment has been directed to me and even if
one or more had been ... I wouldn't care. I
was astounded though, that not one of
these was surprised to hear me admit that
I had a problem with alcohol.
I'm learning how to have fun, to live, to
love my family A wonderful miracle -
and today - I know I won't have a drink -
thanks to my friends.
When I look back, it's true that I was the
last person to know about my problem with
alcohol. If you know of someone with this
problem, there is help being offered to him
right now.
They must ask for help though. 376-5666
is a good place to start.
Sincerely,
A grateful recovered alcoholic

IMPORTANT: CARE OF CUT ROSES
1
If some of your roses start to droop their
heads don't panic. *is is caused by air blockage
in the stem of the rose. This blockage prevents
the head of the rose from receiving water. To
correct this problem please do the following
Remove the affected roses from the vase.
Fill your sink up with 2-3 inches of water.
Cut approximately 1" from the stem of the rose
under water
2
Lay the rose flat on the water surface with
the rose head in a straightened positon.
(This is important — The rose head will harden in
the position that you place 1 in). Place It..e
end of the stem so that it is laying slightly below
the water surface
Please cut-out for future
reference.
The rose should harden within 3045
3 minutes Place the hardened roses back
in your vase
