Jim Bakelaar opened the meeting with a prayer. The secretary and treasurer reports were read and adopted. -4 It was reported that in Mount Forest they are planning to open a pregnancy crisis centre. Another contract has been signed with CKNX for showing our commercials for the next six months. The chairman attended the National Rally in Ottawa, where he was priviledged to hear Mother Teresa speak. There were approximately 40,000 Pro Lifers in atten- dance. It was an unforgettable experience. Replant trees Lucknow and District Horticultural Society met on Tuesday, October 11 in the Lucknow Legion Hall with 40 members present. President Margaret Burkhart welcomed everyone. In the absence of the treasurer, Evelyn Henderson, the treasurer's report was given by Allene Bradley. Mrs. Burkhart gave several announcements and words of interesting activities of other local societies. Several of the 50 trees which were planted around our town, have died with the summer's extreme heat and dry weather conditions. They will be replaced. Del Burkhart, flower bed committee chairman, gave an excellent report on the flower boxes and beds which his commit- tee had planted and cared for during this spring and summer. Margaret Burkhart introduced guest speaker Ms. Brita Ball, from the O.M.A.F. office in Walkerton. She spoke of the work of the "Volunteer" in any organization but particularly with the Horticultural Society. Following her enthusiastic presentation, members were divided into six groups with a different question for each group. Discussion followed as each group presented their answers. Clarence Lange, District Director for Group VIII, gave a few remarks regarding various Horticultural Societies. There was a successful surplus vegetable and plant sale. Wed 50 years Friends and relatives gathered at the Anglican Parish Hall, Lucknow, September 10 to honour Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gaunt on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The bride wore her wedding dress of 50 years ago. Ernest Gaunt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gaunt and Isabel MacCharles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mac - Charles, were married in Ripley on September 10, 1938 with Rev. C.N. MacKenzie officiating. Donalda Slater of Point Clark and Marie Darrah of Toronto, sisters of the bride, assisted at the tea table and the Anglican ladies passed refreshments. Guests were present for the special occa- sion from Toronto, Hamilton, London, Woodstock, Holstein, Teeswater, Wingham, Richmond Hill, Ripley, Lucknow and surrounding area. BIRTHS BEYERSBERGEN - Beverley and Nic of R. 2, Lucknow. welcome with love their son, Gregory Phillip Nicholas, 6 lbs. 9 oz., on October 11, 1988 in Wingham and District Hospital. Gregory is a wee brother for Jennifer. CARTER - Donnie and Linda of Wingham are pleased to announce the birth of their daughter, Jodie Ann, 7lbs. 15 oz., on September 28, 1988 at Wingham and District Hospital. Proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Tom Culbert, Dungannon and Mr. and Mrs. John Carter, Lucknow. JOHANN - Gilbert and Cindy of R. 1, Clif- ford are delighted to welcome Zackery Gilbert Thomas to their family. Zackery was born on October 10, 1988 in Wingham and District Hospital and weighed 8 lbs. 15 oz. He is a brother for Shelley and Brittany. O'NEIL - Carolyn and Denny of 320 Josephine Street, Wingham are thrilled with the safe arrival of Natasha Lyn, 6 lbs. 10 oz.,ion October 7, 1988 in Wingham and District Hospital. Natasha is a sister for Nathan. SAUNDERCOCK - Dave and Sharon (nee Sproul) are happy to announce the safe ar- rival of their daughter, Melanie Lynne, at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich, October 12, 1988, weighing 8 lb. 14 oz. Excited about the new arrival are sister Ashley and proud grandparents, Dave and Betty Sproul, Dungannon, Bob and Pat Saundercock, Clinton, and great grandma Laura Saundercock of Huronview. VAN DYKE - Pete, Lisa and Darren are pleased to announce the safe arrival of Justin Daniel. Justin was born October 7, 1988 weighing 9 pounds 15 ounces at Joseph's Hospital, London.
