This week we made apple crisp. On Fri-
day we were talking about the colour
white. We covered cloud shapes with pop-
corn. It's been fun learning all about
sorting.
GR. 1 RM. 5 & RM. 1
On Thursday, October 13 Miss Mathers'
and Miss Jewitt's grade one classes wert
to Art Bell's Apple Orchard. On Friday, we
joined both classes and had an "apple -y"
day.
The children made apple crisp, ap-
plesauce, apple prints, apple people and
heard the story of Snow White and the
poisoned apple. It was a fun unit!
GR. 2 RM. 3
We are learning about money. We are
also learning new words for spelling. We
are making Hallowe'en Booklets and have
decorations up in their room.
RM. 4
The Room 4 Wonder Tree has started to

Laura Hare presided for the business of
Unit One with 10 members answering the
rollcall with a verse containing thanks.
The treasurer's report was given by
Isobel Miller with the offering and the col-
lection for the Least Coin received.
Lois Walden then obtained her promises
of food and workers for the Fowl Supper
October 18.
Laura Hare closed the meeting.
4-H REPORT
The second meeting of the Trinity
Tender Loins was held at the home of
Jeanette Slotegraaf with all eight
members of the club present.
The group began the meeting by reciting
the pledge and choosing a date for the next
meeting. Next came an exchange of
favourite recipes made with meat.
Reading of 'Meat Inspection for Your
Protection' was next followed by work on
what meat is the best buy. A quiz on
methods of meat cookery was enjoyed by
all.
Warren and Denise made oriental
vegetable stir fry which included steak,
broccoli, carrots, onions, mushrooms, soy
sauce, water and cornstarch. Included in
the meal was drinks of Freshie.
The next meeting of the Trinity Tender
Loins will be held at Joan Helm's.
The this`d meeting of Trinity Tenderloins
was held on October 7 at the home of Joan
Helm. The group repeated the 4-H pledge
with eight members and two leaders
present.
The group then read "Beef makes the
Grade". The know your cuts of beef blanks
were filled in and also tender tricks with
beef was completed.
Veal was the next subject discussed.
Everyone then made their own beef
kabobs with steak, pineapple, celery, car-
rots, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers and
mushrooms. The kabobs were very tasty.
Next meeting October 12 at Jeannette
Slotegraff's.

At meeting three on October 3, 4-H girls
looked at beef cut charts, veal cut charts
and the tenderization of meats. Most of the.
meeting focused on hamburger and veal.
The girls studied the differences bet-
ween lean, medium and regular grinds of
hamburger and the history of hamburgers.
They also studied how veal is graded and
cooked.
At the end of the meeting, the girls
tasted some sensational veal schnitzel.
Meeting 4
On October 11, the 4-H girls met at
Margaret Bakker's home to discuss some
pork pointers.
They looked at the qualities of fresh pork
and port cut charts. Each girl got to judge
four porkchops for the amount of fat, bone,
size and colour.
They talked about the different methods
of cooking pork and how pork is cured and
smoked. Did you know there are more than
five types of suasages and wieners°
The girls had pizza soup following the
meeting.
explore the world of CASTLES! We have
two castles in our room; fascinating castle
books and stories, and a roomful of "sirs"
and "ladies"! Each day we do castle cen-
tres with castle phonics, word study,
poems, creative writing, design, listening,
and thinking activities.

Lisa Menary was our "Special Me" this
week, and next will be Della Hayden.
GR. 5 PORT. 1
Mrs. Worsell's Grade Five class is stu-
dying Ontario as a Province of Contrasts.
Some people have also been working on the
Icon program "Math Maze".
GR. 7 RM. 10
On Tuesday, October 11 we had Art. We
painted a background for a drawing. Miss
Rennie is our Art teacher.
At shop we are starting our projects.
Last week the Student Council handed
out a book of gifts called Gallory of Gifts to
raise money for the school!

Everyone in our classes enjoys sports, so
we decided to do some spelling words on
the World Series.
GR. 6 RM. 12
This week we had an open book test in.
Social Studies. We could use our notes to
help us answer questions but Mr. Cober
also threw in some questions to see how
well we listened in class.
We had eight students from our room on
the cross-country team that ran on Fri-
day: Blair Bieman, Philip Dickson, Shane
Webster, Josh, Foster, Heather Alton,
Tenille Cranston, Jocelyn Logtenberg,
Melissa MacLennon.
MUSIC HAPPENINGS
Brookside's Gr. 7 and 8 are starting a
Ukelele Club this year. Their first perfor-
mance will be at a concert in Lucknow in
early December.
Junior and Senior Choirs have begun
again with each group nunibering about 80
students. Our annual Christmas Concert

will be held on December 13, this year.
OFFICE
Brookside now has its own Code of
Behaviour in place. We have been e*-
perimenting with the procedures involved
for the past two years.
A copy of the policy and related pro-
cedures has been sent to each family. It is
our hope that the co-operative efforts of all
will necessitate very limited use of the
disciplinary policies included in this docu-
ment. Additional copies are available by
contacting the school.
Brookside's school nurse is Ms. Connie
Kuc. She is available at the school each
Thursday morning. She may be contacted
at other times by calling the Wingham Of-
fice of the Huron County Health Unit at
357-2264.
