HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-10-19, Page 11r KINDERGARTEN This week we learned shapes and the col- our green. We can now blast off to the moon with our own rocket ship. We painted it and cut out circles for portholes. We are learning to work the computers and there is enough for each of us. Soon we will be really computer wizards. GRADE ONE Everyone in Grade One enjoyed the "Snow" treat, and we were well dressed for making snowmen with hats, boots, snowsuits, and mitts. Just a dress rehear- sal for the real thing! We are thinking of "rhymes" and trying to make a rhyming book with our good ideas. In art, we participated drawing "people". We had fun painting inside our crayon lines. Alexis is "Special Me" this week. She brought her favourite toys. A big thank you to Mrs. Thompson for teaching us on Tuesday when Mrs. Bell was away. GRADE TWO We have been introduced to our new unit in Environmental Studies entitled zoo animals. Weare looking forward to star- ting our centres. It is great fun on the computers. Each of us has had a turn to operate an Icon and we look forward to going to the computer room as often as we can. GRADE 2/3 Grade 2/3 would like to thank the parents who attended Open House and our Thanksgiving Assembly. Eleven students were away to the Cross Country run at Ainsdale Golf Course on Thursday. They were Mike, Alicia, Erin, Clint, Carrie, Heather, Sherri, Cameron, Tom, Ean, and Steven. What a good time they had! We are enjoying the new computers this week and hope to havemany more fun lessons with them. GRADE 3/4 Many people in our class went to the Cross Country meet at the Ainsdale golf course and represented L.C.P.S. in fine fashion, in the wet and muddy conditions. Congratulations to all for their fine efforts. Mr. Dennis' leafs are 2 and 2 in the year, and we are confident that the Toronto Leafs will do much better this year. In art class, we made the notorious sym- bols of Halloween. The witches were cut out of paper plates and other scraps of material we could find. We are now busy doing vocabulary and stories in our Halloween Unit. GRADE FOUR This week we have started doing timed math addition papers. Our scores are get- ting better every day. Yesterday for art we started our paper mache Halloween masks. Grade 4 has become a Monster Madness house. We are researching different monsters such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster and Werewolves. Our star of the week was Meechelle Wismer. GRADE 5 This week we are making a haunted house for Halloween. Grades Kindergarten to four will be going through it. Amy Sutherland, Jenn Jones, Doug Johnson, Mike Jonson, Mitch Harris and Curt Humphrey were at the Cross Country meet yesterday and did very well. We would like to thank Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. Gilchrist and Mrs. Price for filling in for Mr. Bennet this week. GRADE 6 This week in Creative Writing we have been making poems, changing "Wonka- Vite" into our own crazy poem. We also had a test in Geography and were fairly successful. Some of the grade sixes went to cross- country and did very well. GRADE7 Grade 7 began a new assignment in history - a study of the history of Lucknow. Also, we had our first visit to the Icon computers where we tested out our artistic abilities with the Draw Program. However, we are still trying , to find ourselves using latitude and longtitude in Geography. GRADE8 Do grade 8 students really like poetry? To answer this question, we have embark- ed upon a unit in which we will "ex- perience" this form of writing. Many con- verts are likely to result. SKIPPING CLUB A small group of our students have been working very hard perfecting their skipp- ing skills this fall. As a result of their ef- forts, they have earned the right to be Bruce County's Heart and Stroke Founda- tion's demonstration team! CROSS COUNTRY On Wednesday, October 12 we were sup- posed to go to Ainsdale Golf Course for a regional Cross Country meet but we were snowed out. Thursday was a better day and all our L.C.P.S. runnersran, well. In the mud and slime our runners ran. A big Congratula tions and Thanks goes out for all their ef- forts! Good Luck in Saugeen on October 19 runners! BAND Have you sponsored a band member yet? A shy band member may need mora sponsors for the Playathon-Marchathon of October 25. The uniforms will have new colours anc each will cost more than $50. You are in- vited to come to listen or cheer on band members playing and marching from 6:30 pm to 11:30 pm. " Many neighbours, friends and relatives gathered at the Karashia hall last Satur- day evening to honour Herb and Mary Buckton on their 50th wedding anniver- sary. June Gilchrist presided over the very enjoyable program of games and music which made a delightful evening. Bob Gilchrist read the address to the bride and groom of 50 years. Gert De Jong presented them with a beautiful table plant and flowers. A bountiful lunch was served. Herb and Mary were guests of a family dinner on Sunday at the Vandom Hotel at Teeswater. Dr. Bill and Lee and George and David Buckton of Waterloo spent the weekend with Bill's parents. Congratulations to Mary and Herb Buckton on the occasion of their 50th wed- ding anniversary. Rennie Graham of Toronto and his sister Jean Lowndes of Queensville visited with Allan and Elsie Graham and attended the party for Mary and Herb Buckton. SOUTH KINLOSS by Ruth Buchmeier Recent visitors with Jack and Blanche Needham were Margaret Smith from Lon- don and her daughter Clare Anderson from Arva, Duncan and Beth Campbell, Francis Bruton and Catherine Murray of Sarnia. Ira and Elizabeth Dickie, William and Irene and Krissa and Shea enjoyed their Thanksgiving dinner with Doug and Donna Dickie and family of Markdale. Heather Maclntyre has returned home from her four month tour of Europe which she really enjoyed. Dr. Alex and Mrs. Maclntyre and girls of Alliston spent Thankdgiving weekend visiting with the Maclntyre families here. Ken and Betty Morrison and their two sons visited over Thanksgiving with Betty's family Currie and • Bruce and Shirley Collwell.
