Alton steer brings top price
Beef calves sold well above the market
price at the 8th annual Huron -Bruce 4-H
Show & Sale on Thanksgiving Day.
Vanessa Alton, No. 7, Lucknow sold her
Grand Champion Steer for $2.00/lb. with
the other 38 steers selling at an average of
$1.25/lb. Greg Hutton, of Paisley had the
Champion Heifer, which sold for $1.60/1b.
The other 15 heifers sold at an average of
$i.15/lb.
The Reserve Champion Steer was shown
by Steve Keelan, No. 2, Ripley, with the
Reserve Champion Heifer belonging to
Jeff McPherson, No. 1, Tiverton.
The sale, held at the Brussels
Stockyards, attracted 50 buyers, with 33 of
them going home with some quality beef.
This annual event is an opportunity for 4-H
beef club members in Huron and Bruce
Counties to sell their 4-H calves.
Helen Stothers visited recently with her
daughter, Kathy Meakin, husband Dennis
and family at Vancouver, B.C.
Nels and Gloria Pearson spent Sunday at
Sutton at a family gathering and also
visited in Guelph with Scott, Jeanette and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Roberts are visiting
their son, the Rev. Robert J. Roberts and
family at the Manse.
Karen.Bobrowski, daughter of Rita and
Tobey with her daughter Laura -Lee is
visiting form Thunder Bay for a few.days.
Thanksgiving visitors with Art and Mary
Stewart were Richard and Leslie, Sean
and Kelly Stewart from North Bay, who
visited Friday to Monday. On Sunday, Nor-
man and Norma, Mark, Susan and
Heather Stewart of Lambeth, Edna and
Ron Alton of Lucknow, Joyce and Stewart
Ceasar of Lucknow visited. Sunday even-
ing Blair Alton and friend, Barbara Scott
visited.
On Wednesday, October 12 Senior
Citizens held their weekly card party with
12 tables. High man was Omar Brooks;
low man, tied (45) Tom Young and
Clarence Cunningham with Tom Young
winning; high lady, Olive Monk; low lady,
Barb Pollock.
DUNGANNON UNION CGIT
The Dungannon Union CGIT have had
two meetings. The first meeting was on
September 19 with 14 girls in attendance.
The meeting was in the form of a cookout
at the Church. They started the meeting
with a scavenger hunt while the fire burn-
ed down. Then everyone enjoyed hotdogs
and cupcakes.
After supper they talked over the
uniform of the girls, the hymn and purpose
that the girls are to learn, and some of the
things the girls are expected to do during
meetings.
Games followed and the meeting closed
with taps.
The second meeting was held on October
3. They started the meeting by going over
the purpose and the hymn.
A short discussion as to what the girls
would like to do during the year and what
night was the most suitable for meetings.
CGIT Week is October 16 to 23. During
that week they are having a bring a friend
night at Brookside School and on the 23rd,
taking part in the Church Service at
Dungannon United Church. The meeting
continued with a short Bible study and a
game. It closed with taps.
FLEA MARKET
On Saturday, October 15, Dungannon
Agricultural Society held their second flea
market of the year organized by Sandra
D'Aoust. The hall was filled with many ar-
ticles used and new. Tables were also set
up outside.

UNGANNON
On October 9 the Harvest Thanksgiving
Service was held with the Rev. R. Roberts.
Church was decorated with corn and pum-
pkins for the season.
On October 16, service was held at
Dungannon with Rev. D. Armstrong.
Sacrament of Baptism was held. The
children baptized at Dungannon were'
Britanny Lynn Dam; at Nile, Darren Mat-
thew Austin, Brittany Lindsay Baechler,
Justin William Franklin Miller, Shayna
Elaine Park and Laurie Eda Maria
Rutledge.
DUNGANNON WOMEN'S
INSTITUTE
Dungannon W.I. members met at the
home of Olive Chisholm on Thursday Oct.
6, at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Mary Robson presided.
There were twelve members and one
visitor present.
The opening ode and Mary Stewart Col-
lect were repeated and 0 Canada was
sung.
For roll . call, member explained how
they are applying waste management in
their homes.
Minutes of the September meeting were
read and approved, and financial state-
ment given by Roberta Linskill.
Correspondence included a newsletter
from the Family and Children's Services.
Three resolutions were read, discussed
and voted on which will, be presented at the
London and area convention in St.
Thomas.
Alma Black gave an interesting report
on Huron County's 37th W.I. Rally which
was held at the Hensall United Church on
Oct. 3, at which Mr. Lyle Tudolph, a
representative of the Advisory Bureau of
Recycling Council of Ontario was the
speaker.
Plans were made for the Christmas par-
ty meeting in December.
Mrs. Chisholm convenor for this the
Citizenship and Legislation meeting in-
troduced guest speaker Mrs. Ewen
MacLean. Mrs. MacLean told of her ex-
periences as a bed and breakfast hostess
and displayed the Tourism Ambassador
Award she and her husband received in
January 1988. Mrs. Elmira Finnigan
thanked the speaker and presented her
with a gift.
For the legislation topic - Mrs. Chisholm
read an article on Family Support
Defaulters.
Members paid two cents for every pair
of shoes they own to the Pennies for
Friendship Fund.
The meeting closed by singing God Save
Our Queen and the Institute Grace.
