We read the book to Grades 2 and 4. Pooh Bear will be taking it home to share with family. We made applesauce and found out that we were great cooks. We ate it 'for our snack. It was the best we ever tasted. We are also watching for signs of fall. Grade 1 Grade 1 have had a busy September, learning new words and reading chart stories. We have learned abogt many useful insects, and finished our Activity Centres. Today we made Charlie's "Special Me" book. Some of us are busy each morning running in the Cross Coun- try practices. We are almost ready for October. Grade 2 Some of the Grade two's have been doing research for their book on spiders. They have found some very interesting facts. One of the spiders that Becky brought in was kind enough to spin a web for us. Thank you to Joe Ernest for Mr. Pum- pkin. He helped us with our pumpkin sentences and poem writing. We are looking forward to Open House on October 6th so we can show our families around our special school. Grade 2/3 Grade 2-3 have completed the unit on Butterflies and made some great booklets. In crafts we made two large scarecrows and hung them in our windows. Grades 3 and 4 Since Grade 3 & 4 is working on Bear LCPS INSIDER Units in reading classes, the students each made a bear figure out of construction paper and odd scraps and pieces in art class. They look "beary, beary" good. They also have completed their Bear Books and have been busy finishing ac- tivities at their centres. In health class we have completed Safe- ty in the country, town and on the bus. Safety at home will be discussed next. In our class novel, "The Witches", we have learned that the evil witches have planned to rid the world of little "smelly" kids by turning them into mice. The grade 4's have moved into subtraction with bor- rowing, while the grade 3's are learning how to spell numbers all the way to one hundred. Grade 4 Grade 4 has been looking at pieces of corn through a microscope. We saw the different parts of the corn. There were five of them. The bottom part is the stalk, in the center is the new plant, and the others are the food supply, the leaves and the. roots, We learned ways to make things out of paper in art this week. Barbara Knorr was the star of the Week! Grade 5 We are having a poll in our class about Ben Johnson. 11 students think Ben is guil- ty and took drugs, 15 students say there is no way Ben took drugs. 15 students say there was sabotage involved and 10 say no sabotage was involved at all. Grade 6 The Grade 6 class has been tested in alot of things so far this school year, Some of then are Math, Spelling, Geography and Literature. In spelling we are on lesson 4. Our words came from countries involved in the Olympics. In the fall fair, Sara Haldenby got $9.00 in prizes. In Design and Technology (Industrial Arts) the Grade six class are busy making book shelfs, letter holders, copper foil pic- tures, and in spare time, wooden bowls. In Family Studies we are making stuffed bears. Grade 7 The Grade 7 class has been busy prepar- ing class presentations on Greek- Mythological heroes and monsters. It will be interesting to see the success of our group work. In history class we are working on our autobiographies as well as researching our family history. Grade 8 Meeting the challenges of being the senior class is not always an easy task. However, this class has adopted a mature stance in this regard. Personal as well as academic growth is being enjoyed. This week, we started a major project called Energy Pathways, a simulation ' game based upon the routing of transmis- sion lines. We hope to learn about the many problems people must deal with when confronted by such social issues. Family Studies Grade six classes are developing hand - sewing skills. The Grade 7 classes started their Pioneer unit and have realized how impor- tant fabric was to the settlers: Using the settlers example, the students are utilizing old scraps to make patchwork samples. The Grade 8 classses have been ex- perimenting with different cooking methods. Thank you Mrs. Hamilton for the huge zucchini. The students were surpris- ed at how different the same vegetable can taste when we used different cooking methods.
