Mrs. Phylis Rivett of Pine River Beach held a Gibson family shower, for Miss Katherine Sartori, whose wedding took place to Bill Gibson on Sat. Sept. 17. Congratulations. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Jervis of Clinton visited on Sunday with Mildred Mc- Clenaghan and John McKinnon. In the afternoon, they took a drive to the Elora Gorge. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Purdon, Mrs. Bar- i bara Carey of Kitchener spent the weekend at Niagara -on -the -Lake New York. Mr. Nelson Smith of Markham visited last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Russel Chapman and all attended the wedding of a great nephew on Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ian Sellers RR 1 Holyrood. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Craig, Ryan and Janet of Listiowel visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Bevin Tiffin and family. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott, Karen and Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Laidlaw and family of Dorchester. A community shower was held on Friday Sept. 16' in the Whitechurch hall for Tracy Springer whose wedding takes place Sat. Sept. 24 at Huttonville. Mrs. Jean Ross played some instrumental music while the ladies were gathering. Mrs. Joyce Pickand welcomed everyone and each in- troduced themselves and gave a household hint. Joyce then gave some readings of advice. Jean F 's led in a sing along with Agnes Farrier the pia o. Mrs. Kim Ross helped the bride to be with opening her gifts, in the absence of the wedding atten- dants. Contests were given to the ladies, with Mrs. Bev Springer and Mrs. Hope Springer as the winners. Attending the Gibson, Sartori wedding reception at the White Carnation Holmesville on Sat. night, were Mr. and Mrs. Alex Craig, Mr. and Mrs. Bevin Tif- fin, Mr. and Mrs. Orland Irwin, Mr. and Mrs. John Hunter, Mr. and Mrs. George Lubbers, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Ross. Mr. and Mrs. Carmen Whytock returned home on Friday after visiting a week with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whytock of North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Simpson were Sun- day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Jim HITECHURCH by Jean Ross Henderson. Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Falconer and Jackie visited on the , weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Archie Purdon. Mr. and Mrs. Russel Gaunt, relatives from Victoria B.C., visited on Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Ian Ross. Whitechurch W.I. The Sept. meeting of the Whitechurch W.I. was held on Sept. 14 in the community Hall. Mrs. Norma Rintoul welcomed the ladies at the door. President Mrs. Helen Currie opened the meeting with Opening Ode and the Mary Stewart collect. Mrs. Dave Gibb was convener for the Education and Cultural activities. Minutes were read and the busines discussed. The Rally is to be held on Oct. 20 in the Under- wood community centre and the area con- vention at Hepworth on Oct. 28. Mrs. Dave Gibb gave the motto - "In youth we learn, in age we understand". The roll call was answered by twenty ladies with "A lesson in life I'll never forget". Mrs. Jean Ross played for a sing song. The guest speaker was introduced by Merle Wilson. Mrs. Gould, a superviser from the Wingham Library, told us of a lot of different books there are for the public and how we can benefit from the new library. Mrs. Norma Rintoul thanked her and presented Mrs. Gould with a gift. The Queen ,and grace was sung and the lunch committee of Miss Merle Wilson, Mrs. Dave _Gibb, and Mrs. Don Ross served lunch. 4-H News The Whitechurch 4-H club held their first meeting of their new project 'Much Ado about Meat", on Sept. 12 at Mrs. Elliott's. The group welcomed two new members Karen Lubbers, and Jennifer Moir. They elected as their new president Karen Elliott; vice pres., Marion Dow; Sec. to be rotated, press reporter, Scott Rintoul; leaders Mrs. Kathleen Elliott and Mrs. Betty Ross. The group made a meat -tomato sauce and tacos. The next meeting will be Sept. 19 at 7 pm at the home of Mrs. Betty Ross. Immigrants discussed at UCW meeting Pine River U.C.W. The September meeting of the Pine River United Church U.C.W. met Tuesday evening September 13th in the basement of the church. The president, Betty Jones, opened the meeting with the hymn "The Day the Lord Gave Us is Ended." The purposes of the U.C.W. was repeated in unison and the roll call was answered by 22 ladies present. Margaret Ferguson gave the treasurer's report and also talked on some of the things that are bothersome to the people of our society. The offering was taken up and was dedicated by Betty Jones. The meeting was then turned over to the convenor Thelma Godfrey. Thelma opened her section with a prayer and hymn "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name". Mrs. Godfrey read the scriptures and read some on immigrants,. AIDS, homosexuals, and drugs. The ladies were then divided into groups to discuss these problems. The hymn "What A Friend We have in Jesus" was sung. Betty Jones gave the closing prayer. Grace was sung and a love- ly lunch was served by the lunch commit- tee. A social hour was had by all. Social News Barry and Betty Jones have had people with them from Germany, Australia and OCHALSH 11. by Kae Webster Britain. The people were there recently for the Farm Vacation program. On Wednesday when Betty Jones went outside there was a flock of wild geese in a field not far from the buildings. And Betty was able to get a picture of them. Kae and Jim Webster had a table of their crafts at the Blyth Thresher and Hobby Show. There were others there also from the area, and they were all quite pleased with their sales. It was a grand weekend and it brought out a large crowd. Recent visitors with Barry and Betty Jones were Dave and Carol Miller of St. Marys and Larry and Merri Kirk of Tiverton. Charlene Jones, daughter of Barry and Betty has now returned back to school in Guelph for another year. Mrs. Marj MacLean visited for a few days with her relatives and friends in Wyoming and Sarnia. Weekend visitors with Charles and Mayme Wilkins was Mayme's mother, Stella Irwin of Kinloss township and their daughter Elizabeth Wilkins of Mount Forest.
