Welcome the return of our student editors
By Jennifer Cranston
and Tara Thacker
Kindergarten
The kindergarten has been a busy place
so far this year. The children are enjoying
all their centres and loved talking about
each other's families.
In math we found things that are the
`same and different. Red is our colour this
week. Happy birthday goes out to Paula
Taylor and Lisa H., they're our September
birthday girls.
Grade One
The Grade Ones are becoming used to
being at school all day. We have been busy
making a beautiful rainbow from the
primary colours red, yellow and blue. The
children love their September activity cen-
tres painting, the sandbox and the com-
puter are just a few.
We are learning to read words from our
first reader, but some of us can already
read. Many children are getting baking,
flowers and vegetables ready for the Fall
Fair on Saturday.
Grade Two
The Grade Two class had a great sum-
mer. This fall we're talking about families.
There are Iots of interesting pictures on
our family tree. September has been a
busy month for birthdays. Happy Birthday
to Michael Irwin, Becky Visser and Trevor
Askes.
Grade Two/Three
Yes, we are "Off to a happy start!" We
are busy studying Butterflies, and watch-
ed the caterpillars spin their chrysalis.
Now we are patiently waiting for the but-
terflies to emerge and spread their
beautiful wings.
Grade Three/Four
We have been working hard on addition
and subtraction in math. Everyone is do-
ing well during this review. In Health we
are studying Bus Safety. We made some
good rules to follow after watching an in-
teresting video about "how not to act on a
bus." We are enjoying taking part in all
gym activities.
The whole class is excited about the
Lucknow Fall Fair and seeing our
`CPS INSIDER
schoolwork in the exhibits. We have also
been busy learning about Bears; fact and
fantasy. In some centres we have resear-
ched about the habits of grizzly, black,
polar and sun bears while in the others we
love sharing the adventures of the Berens-
tein Bears, Paddington Bear, Winnie -the -
Pooh, the Care Bears and the three bears.
It has been fun finding out how all of those
make-believe bears deal with life, exam-
ple manners, getting along with others and
sharing.
Grade Four
Grade Four has started learning about
teeth in health. We made corn husk dolls in
art and we are going to tell Robert Munoch
stories to the kindergarten classes next
week.
Grade Five
Grade Five is busy working on rounding
in math. Their Environmental Studies unit
is based on Tourism. A big thanks is going
out to Mitch Harris for all his help during
the first two weeks of school.
Grade Six
The first two weal of school have been
challenging and very interesting for the
Grade Six class. Poetry has been introduc-
ed in English class and the grade sixes are
adapting to it very quickly.
Grade Seven
Grade Seven would like to welcome
Ryan Greig, Tracey Le Breton, Barry
Davidson and Wayne Evans to our class.
After a long hot summer we are now adap-
ting to living by a schedule again.
Some Grade Seven happenings are
working on a "Monster Unit" in Language
Arts, a study of our community in History,
map skills in Geography as well as having
an opportunity to participate in Cross
Country and Soccer.
Grade Eight
They are off and running! There has
been a great start to the new school year.
Already many future plans have been
made: Trips to the Shakesperean Festival
Theatre in Stratford, to a local cemetery to
learn about our community, Ottawa next
spring, and even a ski trip this February.
Even though these will be highlights of
our school year, we will be dung many
things m school activities that will be ex-
citing as well. We are already deeply in-
volved in an interesting project concerning
our families. How can we all help but to be
winners this year.
Library
The library lotto w1 triers this week were
Chad Stanley and Jeremy Smith.
i ongratulations!
Band
Band is starting a new season and has
welcomed ,many new members. We are
working hard for the Fall Fair Parade.
Soccer
The boyhave started practising for the
soccer team.. It looks like the team this
, ear is going to be a strong one. The first
cuts will be made next week.
Girls soccer has started this week and
we are working very hard. We are looking
forward to the meet in October.
School isn't always math and science these days. Some students at the Lucknow
Christian School spent a class learning how to make apples pies last week...but maybe
that is math and science. Here, Heather Lootsma (left) and Amie scott listen intently
as Etty Broer explained the right proportions of sugar and the properties of flour.

Some people are saying
that oil heat is old-fashioned.
Maybe. Oil dealers do give you good old-fashioned "I'll be right o4T
service. They're not like the huge gas or electric utilit+rc t re "Ike
my oil dealer knows .me. And oil heat equipmerf , me f•1. ;rt more
economical, clean, safe.
If that makes oil heat old-fashioned, then 1 gue • 1 an
