UCW Units meet
Unit One
Unit One of the,, Lucknow UCW met
September 6 at the home of Evelyn Cook.
Deanna Reavie opened the meeting with a
poem, 'The Architect', which related to the
theme 'The Glory of God'.
The roll call was answered with the first
Sunday School I attended. The mystery jar
offering was a penny for each five pounds
of your weight.
Evelyn Cook led in the fellowship of the
Least Coin concerning India. The an-
nouncement included the General Meeting
to be held September 27 with a special
presentation on. AIDS.
The pot luck program in which everyone
contributed a number included several in-
spiring readings entitled `Footprints', 'The
Key to Living - Giving', and 'The Windows
of Gold'. 'Walk With Me' was played and
sung by Evelyn Cook. Everyone sang
along as she played 'How Great Thous
Art'.
The woman of the Bible Study this month
was Miriam who gave praise to God.
A quiz on food and farm facts dealing
with the study on creation in crisis reveal-
ed some interesting and startling
statistics.
A delicous lunch was served by Grace
Gibson and Evelyn Cook.
Unit Two
Unit Two of the Lucknow UCW met at
the church on September 6 with 12
members answering the roll call with 'A
Funny Experience'. Ella Hackett presided
and opened with the theme 'Harvest Time'
followed by prayer.
Several hymns were sung with Mary
MacGillivray at the piano.
The minutes were read and approved
and Ella Hackett gave the treasurer's
report. Two birthdays were noted - Noma
Campbell and Olive Irwin.
The offering was taken and the prayer of
the Least Coin was read. Ella Hackett
gave the announcements.
The group was happy to hear that
several people visited with the sick.
The meeting closed with the Benedic-
tion. Stella Tillbrook said the Grace and a
social time was enjoyed as the committee
served refreshments.
Unit Three
Unit Three of the Lucknow UCW met at
Pinecrest Nursing Home on Tuesday,
September 6 with Janet Cook presiding.
She opened the meeting with a poem,
'Kindness'. Ten members answered roll
call with the name of a favorite hymn.
The minutes of the June meeting were
read and approved and the treasurer's
report was given. Lois Goodhue reported
for Citizenship and read Psalm 117.
The general offering was taken as was
the offering of the Least Coin. The group
sand Happy Birthday to those with
September birthdays.
Mrs. Cook gave the annoucnements and
closed this portion of the meeeting with a
poem, '0 God Who Made the Summer'.
CHURCH NEWS
Members then joined with the residents
of Pinecrest for a short program. Familiar
hymns were sung, accompanied by Edith
Webster. Ilien Lemoine and Mary Black
read some poems from old school readers
and all enjoyed the instrumental played by
Edith Webster and Jean Conley.
Eunice Dunsmuir sang a beautiful solo
accompanied by Isobel Shepherd.
Following the closing hymn, the group
repeated the Lord's Prayer. The commit-
tee along with Donna Crich served
refreshments. Eunice Dunsmuir, on behalf
of the residents of Pinecrest, thanked the
ladies for an enjoyable afternoon.
Unit Four
Unit 4 of Lucknow United Church
Women commenced their fall meetings on
Tuesday, September 6. Mrs. Bryce Eliott
chaired the program, opening with a
poem.
Mrs. Elliott gave the call to worship and
read the scripture. The Parable of the rich
farmer was given by Mrs. Leonard
Ritchie.
Mrs. Don Ritchie favoured with two
beautiful solos. Mrs. Gordon Cayley was
pianist for the hymns.
Miss Norma Weatherhead introduced
the guest speaker, Mrs. Brenda Mason.
Mrs. Mason and her husband Barry live on
the 10th concession of East Wawanosh,
where they have dairy cattle and run a far-
rowing operation. Mrs. Mason is also a co-
ordinator for the Queen's Bush with infor-
mation on the farming community. The
Queen's Bush was founded by the Bruce
Presbytery and is funded by the United
Church.
The theme for study this year is farm-
ing, and the speaker was most infor-
mative. Mrs. Mason began her talk by
repeating the well-known hymn, The Nine-
ty and Nine. She told of her work with
Queen's Bush, where she deals mostly with
bereavment and suicides.
Mrs. Ritchie expressed thanks to Mrs.
Mason for her informative talk. There
were 30 in attendance with 10 of the ladies
coming from Ripley U.C.W. to hear the
speaker.
Mrs. Elliott closed the program with
prayer.
Mrs. George McBride, unit leader, took
charge of the business meeting, opening
with a paper on Faith.
Mrs. Bob Finlay conducted the
Fellowhsip of the Least Coin with prayer
for the Palestinian women of the West
Bank.
The rollcall was answered with a current
event and a donation for Friendship
House, Goderich.
Mrs. Ken Cameron gave the treasurer's
report and Mrs. Cliff Crawford reported
for community friendship.
Mrs. McBride closed with prayer and
social time followed.
Centennial honored
South Kinloss W.M.S.
Mrs. Harry Lavis was hostess to the
September 6 meeting of South Kinloss
W.M.S., held at the church. Directors were
Mrs. Fred deBoer, Mrs. Vera Schmidt and
Mrs. Leonard Maclnnes.
Thanks goes out to Wanda Keith who
graciously photographed the group in at-
tendance to commemorate South Kinloss
W.M.S. Centennial.
Mrs.. Leonard Clarke, president,
Welcomed all by reading a Marjorie
Holmes prayer.
The secretary's minutes were read and
approved,' followed by the treasurer's and
ladies aid reports.
Mrs. Vera Schmidt took the Bible Study.
Prayer circle included Mrs. Leonard
Maclnnes, Mrs. Herb Buckton and Mrs.
Lloyd MacDougall.
Rollcall was answered by 21 members
with something you have learned this year
or hope to learn.
The offering was collected with Mrs.
Fraser MacKinnon giving the prayer.
Mrs. Fred deBoer presented a wonderful
mission study on the Russian Orthodox
Church and their form of worship. This
will work well to prepare our members for
their visit to an Orthodox Church in Toron-
to on September 26.
Business matters were covered and
various hymns sung throughout the even-
ing. Courtesy remarks were heard by Mrs.
Leonard Maclnnes, responded to Mrs.
Harry Lavis.
Mrs. Rev. Allison Ramsay closed the
meeting with prayer, grace was sung and
a delicous lunch enjoyed.
Fall Thankoffering will be held October.
