Visiting Japanese student off to Calgary
The Talk of The
Town
Miss Mariko Yamada, an International
Internship student from Tokyo, Japan
visited recently with Rev. Allison and
Priscilla Ramsay. She arrived in Canada
in April and has participated in many
educational and cultural activities, speak-
ing to over 100 groups and sharing her
culture with many people. On Tuesday she
left for Calgary where she will take a

A farewell luncheon for Rev. Merelyn
Letson was held after the service on Sun-
day morning at the Anglican Church. The
young folks, youth group, parents and
older ones all enjoyed the smorgasbord
rneal together.
Mr. Eric Thacker, on behalf of the con-
gregation spoke fittingly about Rev. Let-
son and Mrs. David Haldenby presented
her with a beautiful clock and a hand
painted picture. A Cross suncatcher was
presented by Tara Thacker from the youth
group and Daniel Mullin gave drawings
from the Sunday School.
Rev. Merelyn was very touched with all
of the lovely things and the enclosed card.
She expressed her appreciation to
everyone for the gifts and the love and
kindness that had been shown to her in the
past 4 years with us.
All joined in singing "Praise God from
whom all blessings flow" and Rev.
Merelyn Letson had a closing prayer.
Mrs. Kathryn Fraser, Janice and Edwin
of Armow and Mr. Edbert Bushell of here
visited with Mr. and Mrs. Douglas McLeod
at Kitchener. Edwin stayed down and will
attend Conestoga College.
Mr. and Mrs. Orville Thacker of Kit-
chener visited with Mrs. Ronald Thacker
on Monday.
Mrs. Audrey Borthwick of St. Catharines
spent awhile with her brother Jack.
Hodgins, Mrs. Agnes Hodgins and other
relatives, and all visited Merle Hodgins in
Wingham Hospital.
Mrs. Louisa Schneller was hostess for
the Anglican Church Women's September
meeting held at the church on Thursday
afternoon. The President, Mrs. Roy Col-
lins, opened the meeting with a welcome to
all and a talk on Harvest. This was follow-
ed by the Scripture.
Each . member answered the roll call
with a Bible verse with "Harvest" follow-
ed by a prayer time.
Mrs. Kay Thacker read the minutes and
correspondence. The fall Deanery meeting
will be at Middleton on October 4th the
same date as the Kinlough Bible society
meeting. The bale will be packed at the
church at the October meeting.
Mrs. Louisa Schneller had a nice
Harvest Meditation. Mrs. Agnes Hodgins
had an interesting paper "On past early
days of fall on the farm," and Maureen
had memories of the past.
Miss Edna Boyle gave the devotion en-
titled "We thank Thee Lord" and all joined
in the lovely old harvest hymn "Come ye
thankful people come."
The president closed the meeting with
prayer. Some of the ladies brought down
the church brass and made a lovely job of
it, but others worked at more pew covers.
The Grace was sung and all enjoyed
delicious refreshments.
Mrs. Tom McDonald and Mrs. Frank
Moulden visited Friday with Misses Mar-
jorie and Esther Murray and Mr. and Mrs.
Lyman Sutton at Teeswater.
Mrs. Essie Bloomfield and Mrs. Murray
Wolfe of Paisley visited on Wednesday
with Mr. and Mrs. Tom McDonald.
Dr. and Mrs. Iman Mohamed and boys
of Toronto spent the weekend here with
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Page.
On Sunday morning it was the Rev.
Merelyn Letson's farewell service and she
baptized James Andrew (Jamie) Page,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Page.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Dennis
Brace (Marilyn Rhody) on the arrival of a
baby boy on Sunday at Victoria Hospital,
London. A brother for Travers.
Visitors on Sunday with Edna and May
Boyle were Mrs. Pearl Lloyd, Mr. and
Mrs. Ivan Lloyd of London and Mr. and
Mrs. John Scott of Ripley.

Congratulations to Ross and Grace
Gammie on the birth of their sixth grand-
son in Whitehorse on September lst. An-
drew Dale is the first child for Dale and
Debbie Gammie.
Mr. and Mrs. Allen Houghton of Burl-
ington spent the long -holiday weekend with
Mrs. Ken Cameron and visited other
friends around town.
Mr. and Mrs. David MacDonald of
Nashville,Tennessee are spending approx-
imately two weeks visiting with Aunt Jen-
nie Porteous.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
Gaunt who celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary, Saturday September 10th,
with an open house at the Anglican Parish
Hall.
Mr. and Mrs. Carman Whitmore of Lon-
don, the former Elva Twamley, called on
friends around town recently that they had
known when they lived here.
Sympathy is extended to Gladys
Hazelden, Bob and Lynn Peck and Aman-
da, and Donna and Brian Evans on the
passing of Lester Hazelden in Wingham
Hospital last week.
Larry Farrish and his friend Colin Clark
of Thunder Bay are visiting with Larry's
parents Bob and Ina Farrish. Also visiting
Bob and Ina recently were her cousins
Frances and Sid Keegen of Victoria, B.C.
and her sister Verna Laudie of Kitchener.
Congratulations to Rob Henderson and
Christine Taber who were married in the
Bethany Mission Church, Kitchener on
Saturday, September 10th.
Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hamilton have pur-
chased the house on the corner of Wheeler
and Outram Streets and are renovating it
before moving in.
Another well-known family name of the
area was brought to our remembrance last
week with thepassingof Mary MacQuaig in
Windsor, the last surviving member of the
family.
Vana Gammie and boys have returned
home after spending the summer in
Dawson City, Yukon Territory.
Mrs. Russell Young and,three children,
William, Shannon and Shaun of Longside
visited several families among them Olive
Blake. Other visitors with Olive included
Dr. Grant and Mrs. Kilpatrick and girls
Christy and Tammy of Cambridge and
they show' a video of his niece's wedding

Plattsville; Mrs. Ann Kilpatrick,
Wingham and Mr. and Mrs. Russell Button
from Barrie; Mr. and Mrs. Grant Sower -

Goderich.
Crimestoppers of Grey Bruce are seek-
ing the public's assistance in the investiga-
tion of the theft of a camping trailer from a
residence in Chatsworth, Ontario.
The Owen Sound detachment of the On-
tario Provincial Police report that during
the afternoon of August 8th 1988, a 1987
Starcraft Meteor, tent trailer was stolen
from the parking lot of the Chatsworth
Apartments, situated at 16 Garafraxa
Street, Highway 6 and 10.
A brown pickup truck, with a tire
mounted on the front, in a white wheel
cover, and with an open box containing
some boards, was noted to drive into the
parking lot, the trailer was hooked up and
