HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1988-09-14, Page 16Page 16—Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, September 14, 1988 Politics and parades • from page 5 good reason to fear the New Democrats are going to defeat them in the coming election. In a democracy they should try to work harder not try to suppress us. Fall fair floats advertise many different organizations and products. If Carling can promote beer and drinking surely we can promote politics and thinking. One °of the reasons for participating in a parade is to advertise. This is true of schools, youth groups, square dance clubs, equipment dealers, hot tub manufacturers and politi- cians. Telling the New Democrats that we can come in the parade as long as we don't advertise who we are is like saying we have freedom of speech as long as we don't say anything. I have no desire for confrontation with my friends in the Agricultural Society yet I feel I must refuse to cooperate with what seems to me an effort at political suppres- sion. We have had no trouble with our float in other parades. I anticipate coming to Lucknow Fair decorated with our signs, posters, canady and information. If the President and Secretary feel prepared to enforce the motion all they need to remove the signs and posters are a red robertson and a slot screw driver. I believe in non- violence and will not hinder them. If they wish to selectively suppress the ap- pearance of the New Democrats at the fair thay will have to do their own dirty work.
