Heritage type building
sold in Ripley
What has been the only dwelling con-
tinuously occupied by one family since be-
ing erected in the village 'of Ripley in .1908
has been sold.
gThis building of the heritage type was
n built by Architect Duncan Campbell for
Duncan Munn (former hardware merchant)
0 and his bride (nee) Mary Alice Harris, had
moved in this house a newly married couple
in 1909.
One unique structure in the interior is an
• all oak staircase built for Mr. Munn by
• Truax of Walkerton.
• Miss Marion Munn, the present owner and
retired school teacher has been using the
dwelling as a summer residence since the
death of Mrs. Duncan Munn in 1968. She
hopes to return to the Ripley area to visit old
friends and relatives in the coming years.
She will be returning to Toronto in late Oc-
• tober or November.
a Our thanks goes to Dr. John D. Munn,
Marion's brother, for the above note.

Visits with Ab's cousins
Goldie and Jackie Emerson from London
called here last Saturday afternoon August
20, 1988 to visit Ab. Then they went two
blocks south on the Mainstreet to see
Goldie's cousins Donald and Alma Gillies. A
few years ago they attended District High
Schools, Jackie in Lucknow and Goldie in
Ripley, - both graduates. This summer they
made their second tour in China. Each time
Jackie has a press release pertaining to an
impression of it - the first one was about the
city of Shanghai and the second one is a trip
to the Great Wall.
Meeting in the Manse
The next meeting of the Ripley Women's
Institute will be held at the manse home of
Mrs. Joyce Macpherson on Tain Street in
Ripley at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September
1st. Take note. of the time.
Successful auction sale
When Mrs. Margaret Gemmell finished
with the above Institute item we asked
about the auction sale at her own place on
Saturday morning on Tain Street.
Everything about the sale was good - a good
crowd, good bidding and good weather.
They were well pleased. Auctioneers were
Grant McDonald a couple of stone throws
west on the same Tain Street, and his part-
ner Wally Ballagh of Teeswater. Also she
said she and her husband Francis were
moving from the home to Kincardine today
(Monday) for the time. Later they will be
moving to their second home in Tamarac
Florida and also the place where Don and
Anna MacTavish have their second home.
Christmas light funds
Terry Hunt of the main street corner west
of the post office was here early last Satur-
day morning, August 27. He had his list of
R IPLEY
by Ab Wylds
donor names to do the Christmas lights
donations. This is the second list and on it
are the names of those who have given since
the first one:
They are Rev. Hugh Nugent, Evelyn
McDonald, John Cronshaw, Adeline
Hackett, Marg McDonald, Marg Thompson,
Ronald and Lois Irwin, Lila Trantor, Ken
and Mary MacDonald, Murray and Mary
Culbert, Grant and Barbara McDonald,
Ripley Lions Club, Coiling Bros. for a new
total of $3625.
The comment Terry made was that it was
cooler outside but the temperature is mov-
ing up - thinking about his thermometer
showing the level of cash donations. The
committee reports that the lights are
ordered and the goal is five thousand dollars
total if everyone gives a dollar or two.
Softball tourney here
Thanks to the ladies who put on the soft-
ball tournament this past weekend. It was
nice to hear the cheers and see the
floodlights again after a period of darkness.
' Thanks to Dan Wilken for his current
write' up at the door here early this Monday
morning.
Found the verse
We know that there was a verse about
abomination - Leviticus the 3rd Book in the
Bible - Chapter 18 verse 22 short and simple -
quite readable.
