FLOYD EDWARD COURTNEY
Floyd Edward Courtney, RR 1, Dungan-
non, Ontario died instantly on Friday, July
1, 1988 when the motorcycle he was riding
was struck head-on by a car, on Conces-
sion 4-5 in East Wawanosh Township near
Highway 4.
Floyd is survived by his parents Joe and
Teresa Courtney, RR 1, Dungannon, four
brothers Gary and his wife Chris of Blyth;
Brian and his wife Jeannette, Calgary,
Alberta; Eric and his Wife Anna of
Oakville and Carl, RR 1, Dungannon, one
niece and four nephews and several aunts
and uncles.
He was predeceased by an infant brother
Joseph on November 2, 1958 and a brother
Wayne Joseph on July 1, 1984.
Floyd was a member and an usher at St.
Joseph's Roman Catholic Church and at-
tended elementary school both at
Kingsbridge. He received his high school
education at the Goderich District Col-
legiate Institute. He was employed by
Helm Welding Limited, Lucknow. He had
been an usher at his brother Eric's wed-
ding on June 25 and celebrated his 26th bir-
thday June 26.
He was a member of the Bikers Rights
Organization (Ontario.) Inc. and had taken
part in the 1987 and the 1988 motorcycle
National Ride for Sight with money dona-
tions going to the RP Eye Research
Foundation.
Visitation at the MacKenzie and Mc-
Creath Funeral Home, Lucknow on Satur-
day for the immediate family and Sunday
from 2-4 and 7-9. Rosaries and prayers
were led by Rev. Edward Dentinger, CR
and by Floyd's aunt Mrs. Vivian Hogan.
St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church,
Kingsbridge was filled to capacity on Mon-
day, July 4, 1988 for the funeral service.
Mass of the Christian Burial was
celebrated by pastor Edward J. Den-
tinger, assisted by Rev. Frank Dentinger
of St. Augustine. Pallbearers were six first
cousins; Barry Austin, Joseph Austin,
Michael Austin, Terry Austin, Michael
Courtney and Kerry Hogan.
Flower bearers were Michael, Elisha
and Nicholas Courtney, children of Gary
and Chris Courtney; Ryan and Dale Court-
ney children of Brian and Jeannette Court-
ney; and Debbie.. Patterson assisted by
Fay Telfer, Dianne Hogan and Jeannette
Courtney. Altar servers were Peter Van-
Diepan, Dean Riegling and Jay Riegling.
Readings were by Margaret Austin and
Theresa Cornack. Offering was taken up

by brothers Gary, Brian, Eric and Carl
Courtney.
During the Offertory and at Communion
time, the organist Marianne Hogan with
guitarist Betty Lou Dalton joined by
Shirley Martin and Virginia Stright sang
"Isaiah 49-I Will Never Forget You" and
"What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and the
congressional and recessional hymns
"The Lord is my Shepherd" and "I am the
Resurrection and the Life".
Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery,
Kingsbridge. As a special graveside
tribute, the quartet sang "Beyond the
Sunset" accompanied by Betty Lou Dalton
on the guitar. Dinner was served in the
parish hall by members of the Kingsbridge
Catholic Women's League.
WILLIAM M. HEWAT
William McMullen (Bill) Hewat of Oak
Drive, Elmira, Ontario, died on Saturday,
July 30 at Kitchener -Waterloo Hospital
where he had been a patient for a few
weeks. He was 71 years of age.
Born in Saskatchewan, Bill came to
Lucknow to live as a teenager with his
mother and they resided with his aunt and
uncle, Mr. and Mrs. William Davison.
He attended school here and later mar-
ried Frances Thompson, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Robert H. Thompson of
Lucknow, who survives her husband. Also
surviving are one son, Robert Hewat of
Vancouver, B,C. two daughters, Nancy
Biles of Elmira and Ardonna Ogison of Kit-
chener. He is also survived by five grand-
children, Stephen Biles, Jodi Hewat,
Shelley Hewat, Ariel Ogison and David
Ogison.
He was predeceased by his brother Ron
Hewat. -
Bill was a retired employee of Uniroyal
Canada where the spent most of his work-
ing years. Working his way from the
Elmira plant, he later held . sales and
managerial positions in Edmonton, Van-
couver and Toronto.
In his retirement years, Bill was an ac-
tive worker in the Full Gospel
Businessmen Group and was a former
area representative and president of the
Kitchener Chapter.
Visiatation was held at the Dreisinger
Funeral Home in Elmira on Monday even-
ing and Tuesday afternoon and evening.
The funeral service was conducted from
Emmanuel Missionary Church, Elmira on
Wednesday by the pastor William Ander-
son. Burial was in Union Cemetery,
Elmira.
Pallbearers were Bob Forester, John
Brewer, Mahlon Ross, Bob Rongits and
Bob Zehr.
Honourary pallbearers included Dr.
'Allan Londmore, Severn Argiton, Gordon
Hicks, Ron Smith and Rev. Gord Williams.
Memorial contributions were made to
the Canadian Cancer Society and 100
Huntley Street.
WESLEY JOHN JEFFERSON
Wesley John Jefferson, West Wawanosh
Township, passed away on July 31, 1988 at
the Wingham and District Hospital. He
was 53.
The son of Charles Jefferson and Iona
McClinchey, Wesley was born in West
Wawanosh. On December 13, 1958, he mar-
ried Eilleen Josling, formerly of
Londesboro,
Wesley Jefferson is survived by his wife
and children Debbie, Mrs. Dwayne
Berkholtz of Edson, Alberta; Brian of RR1
Belgrave; Gerald, RR1 Belgrave; Doreen
and special friend Murray Thompson, RR1
Belgrave; Bill and fiance Debbie Rimmer
of Teeswater; Diane, Mrs. David Thomp-
son of Wingham; and Carrie Page and
special friend Barry of Edson, Alberta.
He is also survived by a sister, Elaine,
Mrs. Frank Campbell; and a brother Don
and wife Marie of Clinton; as well as one
grandchild, Regan Berkholtz of Edson,
Alberta.
Wesley was predeceased by one son,
Barry Arthur, on July 11, 1988.
Funeral services for Wesley John Jeffer-
son were held at the McKenzie and Mac-
Creath Funeral Home, Lucknow on August
3 with Rev. Armstrong officiating.
Pallbearers included Tom Cronin, Joe
Heffron, Bert Moss, Ray Hailahan, Nor-
man McClinchey, John McClinchey, Bill
Robinson and Hugh Jefferson.
Flower bearers for the services were
Sam Thompson, Bill Hardy, Stuart
Chamney, Ted Robinson, Doug Mole and
Gordon Foran.
Interment in the Greenhill Cemetery,
Lucknow.
JOSEPH LEO CLARE
Joseph Leo Clare died at Sunnybrook
Medical Centre, Toronto, Wednesday, July
27, 1988.
He was the beloved husband of Zita.
Also surviving are daughters Mary of Van-
couver, Catherine of Toronto, and Louise
and her husband, Terry .Szwec, also of
Toronto. Granddaughter Julia also
survives.
One brother, Walter Clare, of Lucknow,
and sister Mary King, of London, also
survive.
The funeral service was conducted at
Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Toronto, Fri-
day, July 29.
Interment Park Lawn Cemetery,
Toronto.
EVA CATHERINE ELIZABETH
FREEMAN
Eva Catherine Elizabeth Freeman, of
Huronview Home for the Aged and
Tuckersmith Township, died at the Clinton
Public Hospital, Tuesday, July 26, at the
age of 80.
Born in Lucknow, May 6, 1,908, she was
the daughter of the late William Gardner
and the former Susan Webster. She was a
member of Knox Presbyterian Church.
She was predeceased by her husband,
Joseph Henry Freeman.
Surviving are her children, Lois and her
husband Donald Straughan of Goderich,
Beryl and her husband Allan MacDonald
of .RR3 Goderich, Arthur and his wife Bet-
ty of London, and Joseph and friend
Dorothy of RR 6 Goderich. Eleven grand-
children and 13 great-grandchildren also
survive.
One sister, Mrs. Beryl Hunter of
Lucknow, and one brother, Harold Gard-
ner of Lucknow, also survive.
She was predeceased by one brother, Sid
Gardner.
The funeral service was held at the Mc-
Callum and Palla Funeral Home Thurs-
day, July 28 with Rev. David Nicholson of
Knox Presbyterian Church officiating.
Pallbearers were Ken Straughan, Steve
Freeman, Ed MacDonald, Frank Dotter -
mann, Don Johnston and Greg Lapaine.
Honorary pallbearer was James Ruddock.
Interment Colborne Cemetery.
Marita McDougall, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Allan McDougall, passed her Grade 8
piano with the Royal Conservatory of
Music in Walkerton with honours recently.
Marita is a pupil of Donalda Moffat.
