Essay contest winner
Amy Houston, R. 1, Harriston,( gran-
daughter
arriston,(gran-
daughter of Elsie Houston, Lucknow) was
the $50 first prize winner in the Minto
Historical Book Committee Essay Contest.
Amy wrote on what she saw as her
future in Minto Township. Following are
some excerpts.
-I want to live in Minto Township, have a
job as a teacher and have a riding horse
-I want to teach Grade 1 I will be very nice
to my children
-if I do not get a job as a teacher, maybe
Minto will have a McDonald's and Burger
King, or shopping malls I can work at
-Maybe Harriston will be a city
-they might have a Harriston racetrack
and have races three times a week
-they might have ranches with lots of
horses and workers
-it would be nice to turn my dad's private
race track into a public ,race track; I'd
build a grandstand and a narking lot; we'd
have betting in one ai ea. and Minto
Township would get spme profit and so
would I.
Amy has her future planned in Minto
Township - after college she will return
and get a job at Minto -Clifford Central
Public School, develop her dad's farm into
the "Minto Township Raceway" and
manage that in the evenings.
Yes Amy, your future in Minto Township
sounds like fun and a real challenge! Good
luck!
