(photo submitted) Local athletes do very well Nine local athletes, sponsored by Lucknow Legion Branch 309, attended the District 'C' Legion Track and Field Meet held in Kitchener on July 2. Those attending were Sharon Askes, F.E. Madill Secondary School; Jill Campbell, Walkerton District High School; Linda Hayden, Debbie Draper, Shawn Wpods and Terry Livingston, Brookside Public School; Vince Stickland, Jason Humphrey and Adrian Helm, Lucknow Central. Public School. Sharon Askes placed first in the long jump and triple jump, which qualified her to at- tend the provincial meet in Peterborough this past weekend, where she tied for fifth place in the long jump. While the triple jump is included at the District level, it is not an event on the Provincial level yet. Chaperones for the July 2 trip were Ed and June Pyette, Janice Hayes, Sharon Cuillerier, members of Lucknow Legion Branch 309; Jill Clynick, a teacher at Brookside and Phyllis Matthews, Lucknow, who is Zone C-1 Chairman. The Holyrood Women's Institute met at the hall on Thursday afternoon for their annual picnic when members brought friends to join with them for a fun day. Mrs. Harold Smith presided and welcomed all and the Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect opened the meeting. Mrs. Leo Murray read the June minutes and gave the financial statement. Mrs. Harold Smith thanked the Institute for the lovely carnations which she receiv- ed when she was in the hospital and to all the other folks who had sent get well wishes to her. Plans were finalized for the cold -plate supper at the hall on Sunday July 17 served by the Holyrood Women's Institute. ' Mrs. Frank Maulden and Mrs. Gerald Murray were directors and conducted con- tests in the afternoon. In August the W.I. members will attend the Blyth Theatre. Social Sympathy is extended to the Shaw Fami- ly of Stayner (formerly of our area) in the passing of the late Roy Shaw. The funeral was on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Don Bushell had their two granddaughters Brett and Allyson Thomp- son of Kincardine Township for a holiday here. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Dahmer (Laura Breckles) were honoured with a delicious dinner at the Hartley House Walkerton for their 25th Wedding Anniversary. We extend con- gratulations to Laura and Doug from us all at His time. Mrs. Heather Stanley bride of the week was given a lovely shower at the Kinloss hall on Tuesday night. On Saturday evening at the Kinloss Com- munity Centre, relatives, neighbours and INLOUGH by May Boyle friends gathered for a benefit evening for Mrs. Florence Hodgins, Charlie and Tom who oyer two weeks ago during that elec- trical storm lost their barn, stock and con- tents, shed and its contents. Mrs. Olive Hanna and her four sons have been very much in all of ourminds since learning on Monday of Lois Hanna's disap- pearance from her Kincardine home. Many volunteer searchers and helpers in other ways with food and money, were donated to aid in any way possible. Mrs. David Stobo, Mrs. Bert Thompson of Teeswater and Mrs. Tom McDonald went to the Singing Waters at Orangeville. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Haldenby of Guelph spent the weekend here in the village, and with his parents at Pinecrest Manor. George Bushell, David and Janet of Ot- er tawa and Edwin Fraser of Armow visited with Mr. Edbert Bushell during the past week. On Tuesday they went to London where Edbert had a medical appointment a- -' they also visited with Mrs. Stanley Thomp- son at the nursing home in Southampton and with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Simpson (Jean Bushell) at Kintail. Visitors on Sunday with Edna and May Boyle were Mrs. Jean Hodgins and Mrs. Grace Webster of Wingham, Mrs. Carol Helfenstein of Teeswater and Mrs. Kay Thacker, South Line. .. We do extend congratulations to Miss Edna Boyle for her dedicated 75 years ser- vice as organist of Kinlough Anglican Church. A beautiful service and reception was very special on Sunday. The Lucknow Presbyterian Evening Auxiliary held their June meeting in the form of a Picnic at the home of Mrs. James Aitcheson on Tuesday June 14th. A delicious and bountiful pot luck supper was enjoyed by the 17 ladies present, outdoors in a lovely breeze. The worship service was also held out- doors with Mrs. Leonard MacDonald chairing the meeting, and opening with a poem entitled "God is the Answer". The Devotions entitled "Let Your Light Shine" and a Scripture reading were given by Mrs. Ross Gammie. CHURCH NEWS The topic taken by Miss Maudie Fisher, assisted by Mrs. Bert Moffat was in the form of a dialogue on "The Position of Rus- sian Women in the Church". Mrs. Verden Mowbray played a musical tape as the variety number. Mrs. Leonard MacDonald read the poem "One Day at a Time", and gave the Clos- ing Prayer, ending a very enjoyable evening.
