The study of dinosaurs unfolds
Miss Jewitt's grade 1 class has created a
prehistoric world inside their classroom as
their study of Dinosaurs unfolds. It has
been exciting learning about different
kinds of dinosaurs and the kinds of fossils
Scientists have been studying.
They have also begun a unit on Money,
learning about the coins, their names and
values. Watch out Mom and Dad! They
already know they want a raise ifl8their
allowance!
Kindergarten I started work this week
on dinosaurs. They've talked about the
Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Stegosaurus.
Were they ever big animals! This week
they've had four visitors — Jamie Jo
Alton, Mary Joan Andrew, Lisa Culbert,

and Matthew Feilder. These children will
be in Kindergarten in September. The
class hoped that they enjoyed their visits.

DINOSAUR DEN
The Room 4 Dinosaur Den has bee.
writing wonderful poems this eek,
reviewing math work that they have doll
this year. Grade 3's have been reviewing
borrowing and carrying (regrouping), and
grade 2's have been working with money.
Would you like to buy a rainbow for 76¢? Or
how about a magic spell for 44¢? They've
also 'made some interesting collages in art,
layering pictures on paper until no
background shows! Derek Moran was
"Special Me" last week, and now it's Lisa
Osinga.
GRADE 4, ROAM 9
On May 17, grade 4 room 9 had a reading
hour. They read the books they made to the
person they invited. They had cookies and
punch for a treat, and tea and coffee for
the adults. They thank the people for com-
ing to listen to them read. Happy Birthday
to Debbie Delbergue from her friends in
room 9. On May 10 the Brookside Junior
choir went to GDCI for a junior choir
workshop. They sang some songs and ar-
rived back at. the school at hometime.
They have started an individualized
reading program where they read a novel
and do activities for it. It's fun!
GRADE6
Mrs. Tehbut's Gr. 6 class is preparing a
European Day to be held on May 26. The
students are presenting their European
projects that day and are planning to sam-
ple European cuisine for lunch. Bon
Appetite!
GR. 7 RM. 12
This week the class has been preparing
for their upcoming Track and Field com-
petition. They have been working hard
during their gym:classes, and some people
have been working at recess too. Last Fri-
day, Dave Shaw and Don Young . from
Wingham Public School brought their skip-
ping team to demonstrate various moves
and routines that they can do (or try to do)
during their Jump Rope for Heart
Skipathon on June 7. Miss Clynick has
chosen Terry Livingston and Missinda
Mohring as her assistants for their pledge.
The class is row underwayin their two -
pitch houseleague schedule. Mr. Liddle's
Woodpeckers and Mrs. Jewitt's Bluejays
are both tied for the lead with 3 wins each.
FRENCH NEWS
The grade 8's are presently ' working on
projects in the library. Some of the topics
that they have chosen are; French
Cuisine, Paris, France, Quebec, La Tour
de France and Martinque.
HURON COUNTY'S
LARGEST BOOKSALE
Book lovers, collectors and avid readers
are invited to attend Huron Uounty's
largest used book sale, being held Satur-
day, May 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,
and Sunday, May, 29 from noon to 4:00
p.m., in the Blyth Memorial Hall.
This is the tenth anniversary of this
popular Blyth Festival fund-raising event.
Thousands of used hardcover and paper-
back books are on sale at incredibly low
prices! In addition to the book bargains,
there will be a bake table, a lunch counter,
and guided tours of the theatre's produc-
tion areas. The Festival's Box Office will
be open on the Saturday, from 9:30 am to
5:30 pm, for those wishing to purchase
tickets for the Festival's summer season.
There is no admission charge for this
event. The Memorial Hall is located on the
main street (Highway 4) in Blyth.
Donations of used books for this event
should be left at the Lucknow Sentinel
office.
